    My poor Donovan

He's all alone at the vet until Monday...He has unfortunatly developed some stones, which are causing blockage and he has had blood in his urine since 1:30ish am this morning. My poor baby! I can't believe this has happened to him! He's not quite 2 yet! And he's on excellent food...which the vet tried to bame it on...she must have been new, never seen her at the clinique before. My Reg. vet was in surgery, and so was my alternat clinic. So instead of having him suffer till sometime after 5 when they may have been able to see him, I let her examine him. So of course she asked what I was feeding him, and I said Royal Canine, and she was like, of that's awful food, no wonder he's got stones. It was all I could do not to hit her! ( obviously fresh out of school, not real world exp. ) So I politely asked what she would suggest and she said "oh I love Iams or Eukanuba" My jaw just hit the floor! I was like yeah, if I wanted to feed him cats and dogs, I'd take home the dead bodies form the pound, it's AWFUL food!!!!I was sooo mad, and had my other vet been available I would have walked right out of there! But since, I had no choice, I left him with her (My reg. Vet there will be the one actually TREATING him, thank god, once he's out of surgery). He was soooo sad, crying...I just wanted to hold him forever. I can;t believe they want to keep him to monday....Why do they need him sooooo long? That's 3 nights! The quotation is outrageous too, never mind and arm & a leg, I'm giving them my body! I just hopehe comes out ok......He's the sweetest kitty in the world.....He dosen't deserve this!

Please keep him in your thoughts, he needs all the comfort in the world right now...he doesn';t like being away from me.

    Poor Donovan!!!

I'm sorry he's having to go through this. Just to let you know, I've ALWAYS fed my cats Science Diet, from the time they were babies and I have NEVER had a problem. One time I DID switch to Purina One. It was then that my (now RB Kitty) Casey developed a UTI. The vet said that some males are susceptible to UTI's and stones than others, and can become exacerbated (aggravated) by feeding them less than quality food.

I will NEVER feed my cats Iams or Eukanuba. SD works for me!!

I'll say a prayer for Donovan. Please keep us posted, okay?? And hang in there.

Rest In Peace Casey (Bubba Dude) Your paw print will remain on my heart forever. 12/02

He will be going on a special diet for a month or two to eliinate any stones that may be left after the flushing. We think that A) he may be genitically prone(though being a feral rescue, he has no background for us to check) & B) he may not have been drinking enough water. So we have bought more water dishes and placed them everywhere.

Unfortunatly the vet has phoned and informed me that he also has a heart murmur. Not sure how sever, have to get a scan (sorry my minds a blank, can;t remeber what it's called) But that will have to wait till my next paycheck unfortunatly -next friday. This visit is costing me an arm & a leg (though I would do it any time for him, or any of them).

I will keep you all updated on his progress.

    Thanks Kfmar!!!!!!!

Prayers going out to poor Donovan.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I'm so sorry to hear that Donovan is sick. He sure is gorgeous. My cat Cirrus had a severe case of crystals and he's only 1 year and 9 months old. I was also feeding him a premium cat food which was Nutro Natural Complete Care. He had to have surgery and is now on Hills Prescription c/d Diet. I agree that some cats are just more likely to have urinary tract problems.

Prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way. Please update us when you can.

Well, my fiance was able to visit him today. The vet (my reg. one) says he's doing very well. He still has the catheter in, also a cone one his next to keep him from removing it or the I.V fluid hose. ( I was told he did not like the cone ) They will be taking the catheter out Monday morning, and he should be ready to be picked up by lunch. I cannot wait to get him back!!! It's so empty without my little love bug!

Aww poor thing!! My Neko had the same problem when he was just a year old. He actually had two episodes of it in one month, it was horrible. But here we are 6 years later, and he's healthy and happy! BTW he now drinks filtered water only and is on Waltham Control pHormula cat food.

Well, my baby is home!!!! He seems to be all better. He will be on a special diet for a month to remove any remainng crystals. Other then that it's just preventive treatment. Lots of water and good food. Donovan sends purrs and head butts too all!

I'm so glad to hear that Donovan is back home and recovering. Hopefully he'll continue to remain healthy and learn to drink more water. Do you have a pet drinking fountain? If not you may want to buy one because this will help increase his water intake. Here's a picture of a Drinkwell Fountain that I have.

Here's Sunny drinking from it. Unfortunately after 1 year of use, I had to stop using it because Sunny loved playing in the water too much and was making a major mess everyday. I look forward to the day that I can start using it again.

No, but we are getting one Though I'm sure we'll have the playing in the water problem. But I don't mind Dante splashs already anyway!

    Donovan

I wish that I had read your thread earlier, so that I too could have prayed for your little Donovan. I am glad to see that he is doing better. I cant believe that the other vet actually thinks Iams is good! I also feed Royal Canin to my cats. It is a good product and all of my cats like it.
The picture of Donovan is so cute! He looks just like my "Billy, except Billy's nose is pink with black spots, I love his nose. I hope your little Lovebug is doing better. Why can't you get a signature?
