I said "pass the salad", not "pass the punch"!!

Three injured in retirement home fight over salad

Three pensioners ended up in hospital after a fight over lettuce at their Florida retirement home.

One man needed stitches in a head wound after he was knocked to the ground, another cut his arm and a third man was bitten in the scuffle.

The Ledger reports the fight broke out at the Spring Haven Retirement Community in Winter Haven.

The home's executive director, Jill Andrew, says the trouble started when a 62-year-old resident accused a man in his 70s of picking through lettuce with his hands instead of using tongs.

According to the police report, the 62-year-old punched the older man in the mouth. Other residents, including the 62-year-old's 80-year-old mother, reportedly helped break up the fight.

Ms Andrew said the injured residents were released from hospital the same day. No charges have been brought, but the man who threw the first punch has been asked to leave the retirement home.

Ms Andrew said: "We see the humour in it. People think that because these people live in a retirement home that they've quit living, but we have 300 vibrant personalities here."
    --------------------------------------------

    Humor in that situation???

    Oh yeah....

Respect your elders-- because it looks like a "vibrant personality" like it can whip "youthfully exuberant" rear end..

    LOLOLOLOL,

a 62 year old that STILL lives with mom!!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

See the kind of people we have to deal with over here? I can't believe that made national news. Oh, and they want the 79 year old to move out. Wonder where he'll go next.

Some men never grown up*. Growing old is not the same thing as growing up.
I shudder to think of this as amusing, if this happened at any other age, it would not be regarded as funny.

In elementary school, the kids would get yelled at, sent to the Principal's office, there might be detentions, or extra homework.

In high school they'd likely be charged with assault and brought up on charges, at the very least they'd be expelled and ordered to counseling and community service to make ammends. Unless they were star players on the school sports team, then it'd be hushed over, and their wrists would be slapped.

In adults it would be considered assault for sure. Lawyers would be involved. Restraining orders, perhaps. Eyes would roll at the stupidity of it all. But because of the stereotyping of senior citizens as passive people with no personality, this is regarded in the media as something to be applauded and even laughed at?
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
    Sigh.

Okay, I'll step off my soapbox. Y'all go have your fun.

    * I'm not saying my gender is immune to this, it just generally does not result in fisticuffs in most instances.

i was watching a story last night about a tussle in a Boca Raton, Florida country club.....A gent was punched in the face and another fell to the ground when a fight broke out.

The gent who was punched look like he was in his late 50's..

What is going on down there???

I am starting to be a little leery about 'vibrant' people.
