    Update on Lestat

    Hi all!

Well, after a blood test, urinalysis, ultrasound, GFR and yes - a CAT scan (no pun) it's been determined that Lestat has what is likely a congenital or "birth" defect of the kidney. There is no disease or anything directly threatening his health, so that is pretty much the conclusion. Our vet still wants to speak to an internist to make sure she's covered all her bases and to see if another test is in order, just in case. She said that his condition will require yearly monitoring by follow-up testing, but he should be fine w/ just one kidney!

This definitely makes us feel better, but I'd still like to know exactly what this "birth" defect is, and why it made his kidney stop working - or maybe his kidney never really worked in the first place! Would you feel comfortable with this prognosis? I mean, we trust our vet and the specialists working with her, but there's also the "what ifs". . .

Anyway, thanks again for your kind words last week and I'll leave you with a picture of my brave little cutie. (Something tells me I'm not gonna do it right and you won't see it. . . )

I hope your brave little Lestat will be fine with only one working kidney. Fingers and paws crossed here.

Your picture shows up OK - all you need to do is resize it.

    Thanks for the update!

    Opps, I missed this one.

Well, I am happy to hear that it is not a dieses that caused this and that Lestat will be fine with just one kidney.

I know what you mean about wanting to know more. I am the same way. I want to know for sure if that is it and that all will be well from here on. However, I think that sometimes we just have to go on a little faith. If you trust the doctors that you are working with then you may want to leave it at that. It also never hurts to take all of the records and get a second opinion. I have done that before.

Anyway, give a little love to Lestat for me.

One more thing, I can't see the picture either. I think that you need to post more. If you need any help please feel free to PM me and I will see what I can do to help.

I have a niece that had a kidney removed when she was about 4 years old. She is now grown and the mother of two. She has had other health issues to go along with it but with proper medical care she has lived a normal active, productive life.

Nobody knows better than I do, how we worry about lifelong problems with our babies. Just do as I do and thank God for every day we have with our fur babies and love the daylight out of them while we have them. TRY not to look at the "what if's" as they will drive you crazy. These babies are sent to us to teach us a lesson, figure out what your lesson to learn is from your baby and work on that. I think Amy's mission is to teach me and other, that handicaped kitties deserve loving homes too, and are just as wonderful to have as a "normal kitty.

I know that Lestat will be able to function with one kidney, but I agree that it is important to know the full story of what is happening. Perhaps you should arrange a visit to a specialist, I know it will be expensive, but it may ease your mind and let you know how to best care for your baby.

I wish the very best for brave little Lestat and for you.
    Would love to see pictures.
