    Food = Swaying?

    I picked up a can of Wellness/OMH Turkey and Sweet Potato wet food for Teeko yesterday at the pet shop. I was pretty excited about to find out that they will start selling the wet Wellness/OMH cans there.

    I mixed up a bit of it with his kibbles for dinner time, and set it down for him. He starts sniffing it and the next thing I know he is swaying from side to side, it looked like he was going to faint. He backed away from it and onto his pillow, with his ears and tail down, looking scared. I never seen him do this before, not sure what was wrong I said aren't you going to eat, he got up went back to his dish and started swaying again. So I went and sat beside his bowl, it smelled ok (not sour or anything), he came over to me so I put a little on my finger for him, and you guessed it, he swayed again side to side.

    I said that's it, so I dished him out a fresh dish of food (dry only, no wet) and he was back to his usual self, pawing at it (he likes to try and splash kibble into his water then nose dive for it) and he ate it all.

    I haven't given him anymore this morning or even showed him the can. I called the 1-800 number on the can, but they are closed until Tuesday and the pet store doesn't open up until after noon where I bought it from.

    What could have caused this? Could the food have spoiled?? Could he just not like the flavor? There is no expiry date on the can, and as I mentioned, I smelled it and it smelled fine to me, but I know they have a stronger sense of smell then we do.

    (He currently eats the dry Wellness Super Five Mix Chicken)

    Thanks.

    Wow, that is so strange! Wellness makes such a great product, it's hard to imagine what could have caused that reaction. They don't use anything other than natural ingredients, I don't think. Does Teeko have any allergies? Perhaps it's something in the turkey, how it's processed? Very strange! I'd be interested to hear what the company says! Did you try a second can? I'm sure you don't want to see him reacting like that again, but maybe yesterday's was a "bad" can? If you have an unopened can, maybe the company can test it somehow! Hope Teeko's feeling ok!

    That is an odd reaction! I'd go with what Sandra suggested. It sounds like the scent had some odd effect on him.

    Good luck!
