A first hand look at ABUSE!!

A german Shepherd was brought in for grooming yesterday. It had just been taken away from some extremely neglectful owners. It was judged to be 12 to 15 years old. After having spent its life outside it is now finally safe. It was bone thin and to my understanding did NOT have any bedding in its outdoor "house" nor any water. (remember, we are in the single digits to the teens right now here). Its fur was matted.......YES short hair but MATTED!!!!!! but the worst thing was some injury left untreated. I lifted its tail figuring that the stench I smelled from that area was due to a giant poop package and found raw skin. 2 deep gashes, red and inflammed with infection. The vet will be this poor dog's next stop after the groomers.
So I proceded to comb all the mats out which involves a bit of pulling on her elderly skin. And with no "meat" on her bones, it probably hurt at times. I shaved around the infected area as best as I could (did not wish to cause MORE damage). Bathed her with 2 full shampooings and then conditioned the heck out of her dry and brittle coat. Blew her out to get the remainder of the massive amounts of dead hair out of her fur. And do you know, that through the entire process she did not bark, wimper, growl, snap or even try to bite........not even once but she DID give me several sweet little kisses.

How can people allow living creatures to suffer like that?

SHE was being called Hector, the new people will be renameing her so please keep her in your thoughts and God bless her saviors.

Where is that tearful smilie when we need one???

Jen, that is so incredibly sad, and your account brought tears to my eyes.

I'm so glad that he's in a safe place now, and hopefully will find a furever home soon.

Mine too Cookiebaker! Jen this is beyond sad and I am fighting two big emotions now - anger over the conditions that she has been living in and extreme sadness over her sufferings. I guess there is a third emotion too and that is just pure unadulterated JOY that she is finally getting the attention and love that she has missed for so long. How sad that it is in her twilight years that someone has shown her some care and concern. Bless you Jen for being so gentle and sweet with this precious dog. It never ceases to amaze me that dogs are able to rebound to trust humans after such neglect. I know how precious those kisses were to you. Please keep us updated if you can. (((hugs)))

This just breaks my heart too. But how wonderful that you were able to help get her cleaned up, and show her love and gentle care. It is so utterly shameful the way some humans neglect and abuse the creatures they are supposed to be guardians of.

Bless her sweet heart, she will be in my thoughts and prayers, as well as her new family who had the wonderful hearts to take in an elderly neglected pup and give her peace and a new life.

I just can't imagine having abcessed anal glands just left like that. How horrible.

Thank you so much for taking care of her and giving/getting kisses.

    Poor sweet girl.

I hope "humans" like that will really get whats coming to them. Things like this just break my heart. Bless that dog for finally finding peace. At least we know that she will be able to die finally knowing what love was. I hope she has many happy years left. Wish we could choose a name for her. It would be Grace.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

How horribly sad! I had a German Shepperd growing up and she was the sweetest thng I've ever known. How could someone be so stupid? I hope she heals perfectly. She might not have many years left, but at least they can be happy and loving.
