Pee problems

I've already told you about Cammie (left) and Halo (right) and their poo problems -- they don't cover it, but now they both have pee problems.

We caught Cammie peeing in the empty kitchen sink. I just thought it was gross and we could make her break this weird habit but my Mom said that her elderly cat started doing this once when she had a urinary track infection. Anyone have experience with this one?

Now Halo seems to pee out of fright. She had to go to the vet last month for her annual shots and she completely soaked the towel that I had put in the carrier. A week after that, it was back to the vet for her because she had an awful reaction to getting the rabies and distemper shots at the same time. She hates the carrier so much, I decided to hold her (big mistake) while my husband drove. You guessed it, she completely soaked me and the car seat. We had to run back home so I could change clothes because I smelled so bad. (Still trying to get the smell out of the car).

Poor kitties. We don't know their histories. Halo was adopted when she was about 10 months old last year. She used to act like she was abused and would duck her head if you tried to pet her, but she's stopped doing that. She still refuses to get on any furniture no matter what.

We adopted Cammie earlier this year after she was found abandoned in Denali National Park. They told us she was 2 or 3 years old, but the vet tells us she is at least 10.

Think Halo will grow out of this as she gets used to the carrier?

I would take Cammie to the vet and have her checked, You may want to call fist and see if they need a sample. Whenever I have talked to my vet about this type of thing they always want a sample. As for Halo, it sure does sound like it is behavior caused, but I would still call the vet and talk to them about it.

One of the most common reasons I know of for peeing inappropriately is health issues, the next is that there may something is wrong in the environment. Not saying that you are doing anything, but it may be something that the kitty thinks is out of whack.

Just my opinon, but I have had that happen before. Not to scare you or anything but my RB Flicka let us know that she was sick by peeing in the wrong places. I took her to the vet and it turned out that she had kidney problems.

Peeing anywhere but the litter box is very good indication of UTI. Antibotics for 10 day will take care of that problem. Must see vet.
Ignoring it is hazzardous to kittys health.

Halo will get used to carrier. Maybe try putting her in carrier at home every so often so she doesn't associate all the time carriers mean going to vet. Also, put treats in carrier and favorite toy.

Our kids go into carriers when there are tornado warnings and we all head down to basement. Butterscotch loves being in carrier to watch when we have work done on the inside of house. Thumper and Skinny perfer the bedrooms. Butterscotch is Mr. Nosey

Make carriers a postive experience.

I have to agree on Cammi and the UTI. Peeing anywhere but the litterbox is a good indication that there is an infection and she should be checked out. As for Halo peeing on the way to the vet, it sounds like she is just plain ol' terrified - poor kitty. Peanut is usually pretty good in the carrier, but her second to last trip to the vet she peed in the carrier too, I think because of a combination of not feeling well and dogs and kids in the waiting room at the Vet (she hates kids and will run and hide whenever they're around, and she couldn't hide so she peed). She has also peed in the past when I was learning how to get her in the carrier. It was quite the scene and she was probably scared so she peed - poor kitty. I've since learned how to put her in so it's not as traumatic.

Anyway, back to your question, hopefully with time Halo will stop peeing on the way to the vet, but I think that will only come with time and trust in you.

agreed....Cammie needs a vet visit

Halo might be able to learn to trust the carrier if you keep it out all the time. You can feed her in there, give her treats in there and keep it visible so it is not so scary. Don't close her in it, just let her explore it, they DO like to go into things to sleep. She may still pee out of nervousness, but this might help.

Thanks for all your input. We'll call the vet today and get Cammie in (see if they need a sample first). There must be something wrong because she has 2 cat boxes (one upstairs and one downstairs) that she has always used in the past.

CatDad - Sadly, I'm familiar with kidney problems. Kuhio peed all over the place in the last month of her life. But she was 17. I guess we're still having problems accepting the fact that Cammie is at least 10 years old even though we've just had her since March.
