Some not so great news on my fosters...

I brought all four kittens to the vet on Thursday for a blood test (FIP, FIV, etc.) and their first shots. They're negative, btw...yay!!

Turns out, they have an extremely rare eyelid deformity. The vet that examined them had never seen it before and another vet said he'd seen it in a dog a few years ago. He thinks that before the kittens had their eyes open, they got some type of infection.

The result is that when they blink and/or close their eyes, they aren't completely closed. Caleb has an ulcer on his eye. Phoebe had a lesion, Emma wasn't too bad.

They will need surgery, until then, they are on antibiotics and artificial tear eye ointment. It doesn't seem to totally effect them, yet.

I'll have more information tomorrow when all the vets can discuss what can be done. A call was already put in to an animal opthomologist.

We refused Timothy to the home we had for him as we didn't feel it was good enough. When David told her he'd have to have eye drops, my decision was sealed when she said she couldn't afford the $10 medicine. (Timothy is the only one that might not need the surgery as he had no lesions and his eyes looked the best.) She can go adopt a "free" kitten somewhere where some "crazy cat lady" wont make her swear not to declaw it, pay for its vet bills, neuter it and keep it indoors (downtown L.A.)...so there!!

All in all, they are all very, very sweet. Emma may have a home, the girl just needs to find a cat friendly apartment and she is just as "cat crazy" as we are. We may be keeping Phoebe or Caleb...as they are the ones in worse condition eye wise. We haven't dicided which one. I just hope this isn't a bad decision with our six...but I don't know that I'll find home for three cats with eye problems that will eventually require some major surgery. I just don't know what else there is to do.

Oh my gosh, Kelly! I'm sorry to hear about the kittens and their eyes! Poor little precious things! It's not noticable in the pictures! Did you suspect anything like that before the vet visit? This won't affect their eyesite in the future, will it? Bless your heart! I'm glad everything else was ok with the little angels.

I'm also glad that you went with your instincts on the adoption. I know it may seem hard sometimes, but it's always good to follow your instincts, because they are usually right on.
I would love to see the forms that you made up for potential adopters to fill out! I can imagine it will be a hard decision on which kitten to keep as they are all so cute! You and David are doing such a wonderful job with them! Have you let your cats interact with the kittens yet? Maybe see which one blends in the best if they interact.

BTW, I finally got the pics back from our BBQ weekend and I got some GREAT pics of your babies! I'll burn you a CD with all the pictures!

Kelly that isn't the best news for these 4 cutie pies. But the good news is this....you found them and for once (well besides their *other* Momma-cat, she did the best she could) someone in this world really cares about them! I think this story will have a very happy ending!

Many thanks to Roxyluvsme13 & k9krazee for my great new siggy!!

    Kelly,

I'm sorry to hear about the kittens eye problem. You absolutely made the right decision as far as Timothy is concerned. If this lady can't affort $10 eye medication, she certainly can't afford a pet. Plain and simple.

I'll say a prayer for the others. You are such a wonderful person and have my utmost respect for the work you do with all the animals.

    Love,

Thank you so much for your kind words. It seems you all are the ONLY people in this world that feel the way I do about cats. I was in a wedding yesturday and when I was introduced by the bride, she ended the intro with "and she has a MILLION cats!!" and everyone laughed. I didn't know if that was just her being cute or what...but it kind of hurt my feelings. It made me seem like I was odd or something. Oh well, whatever. There is a reason God gave me this heart and that's all that should matter to me.

    OK, all done.

As far as the furries, I hope the vets will give me a break on the cost. (I get 60% off of services, but with three kittens, it could really be a lot of money.) Please pray for something like that, if you could.

Thanks again, my dear friends. You always know what to say when I'm worried.

    Love,
    Kelly

Kelly - if someone said that about me I would be honoured!!!

I would take it to mean that someone has noticed how SPECIAL you are to have such a huge heart and A MILLION cats too!!!
I mean really, how can having a MILLION cats be an "odd" thing!!!

Kelly, I'm sorry to hear about the kittens eye problems. Prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

Maybe you should keep both Caleb and Phoebe so you don't have to make such a hard decision. If not I sure hope that they'll be able to find the perfect loving and caring forever home.

God provided you with a "cat loving" heart, Kelly, and thank goodness He did!!!! Good luck with the babies, and for finding the purrfect home for Timothy and the others.

People say stuff to me too .. they joke that I'm going to be a crazy cat lady .. I just say that I'm not ashamed of my love for cats - I TELL people that I'm cat crazy! I'm proud of it - rather be like I am than like the millions of cruel people who couldn't care less ...

Good luck for finding homes for the sweeties!
