    Carolina dogs, wild?

I just read that carolina dogs are actually a wild breed, as well as a pet! I never knew that!

Apparently they are found in the Southeastern states. I read that even when they are caught wild, they still make gentle and wonderful pets. But they are rare due to the rising number of coyotes.

Just had to share my little piece of information..
    I've been BOO'd!

i think it is like that in australia too, but with dingoes. people say that it is a hard 'breed' to have because they are naturally feral. but they are trainable.

If you get one, you have to get them young and socialize them with your family. I was at a loss as to my dog's Seven's breed until I met a man at a gas station who has several of them. He ID'd my dog and when I looked at him like he was crazy (I had never heard the term Carolina Dog or American Dingo before), he called for his dogs and 3 of them sat up in the back of his Durango. They looked EXACTLY like Seven. We talked for a while and I told him about some of Seven's 'weirder' behaviors and he said that his dogs do that too.

He told me to check out www.carolinadogs.org for more info. Other than the looks and the behaviors he has, unfortunately (according to their website) I could never verify the breed because they requirements are so rigid, but his dogs matched mine down to body and head shape and the tail thing that the info is good enough for me.

I hope to have more of them when I move into a new place. They really are great companions.

You can also find info here . I'm working on videotaping him for my friend Amy (she hasn't seen him in over a year). If can get the file size small enough, I'll post a link. I just can't kill my bandwidth or Comcast will 404 my site.

Well she wouldn't know that because you put a ? on the end.

Yes, Carolina dogs are actually quite sweet. My friend's mom has two of them, and they're like German Shepherds, you know? They're extremly gentle, and trainable, but they have a feisty side. They're BEAUTIFUL, no doubt. ^_^
