    Dominican Republic

Has anyone been here before? If so, can you fill me in on it? By what my dad tells me, all there is to do is sit at the beach all day lol. My friend told me shes going for 2 weeks, airfair (there and back) hotel all for 1500 bucks! I have 1000 saved already so I'm doing good! I'm thinking I might go if I can one get someone to come and 2 know if there will be enough to keep me going (as I'm paying myself :x lol) I hear the beaches are amazing though so that might just be enough for me! lol.

We've been there twice and loved it! Both times on the north coast. We stayed at "Camino del Sol" near Cabarete the first time and at Riu Merenque on the other side of Puerto Plata the second time. We liked the first one the best!

Yes, the beaches are fantastic, and the hotel standard is high.

If you're going to the north coast, let me know and I can give you a few tips.

If you're in Pueto Plata, don't miss the Bar called Cafe Cito, it's owned by a really nice canadian guy, ex consul. There's a greek woman who does the cooking and the music is great!

There are lots of other things you can do, than sit on a beach all day!

Here's a link to a good site, the places I mentioned you can find here:

If you scroll down towards the bottom of this link, you can read some reviews of Cafe Cito.

    Any questions, just ask!

What month did you go? How was the weather etc? Man it would be awesome to get out of here on our crappy snowy cold days! lol Thanks for all the info!

We went in December, both times. I'm not quite sure when it's best to go, but I would definately say during winter! The temp. was around 82 - and the water too.

Read some of the reviews and tips from the links I posted. You can find info on almost anything you want!

One tip: Change your $$ to pesos - you'll get much more value.

If you want to travel around, share a taxi with some friends. It only cost us 800 pesos for the whole day. There's room for 6 - at least! If you go short distances, you go up to main road and get a lift with either a moped or a minivan - everybody does it, it's cheap and it's fun!

Btw, there's a bulletin board you can join and ask anything! http://debbiesdominicantravel.commun...s/directory.pl
