First Bird training session! :)

This is The first Time I have ever trained a bird for someone other than myself. lol I'm very excited.

Well My Friend has a beautiful blue quaker parrot named pirate, but she kept complaining that he is very fiesty, mean, and freaks if she goes near him. This is her First Bird, and is a little bit afraid of his beak. lol

anyway, I volenteered to help tame Pirate. But for a week or more before i told her to sit near his cage and stick her fingers in and talk to him before I came, so it would be a little bit easier. Today was the first session, which lasted *about* two hours. He was very uncomfterble at first but my friend sat on a bed watching a quiet movie and i watched it from next to the bird cage for a half hour, so he would get used to me. As i was watching the movie I felt my hair ruffle, and looked next to me to find Pirate preening my hair! LOL he is so cute, and i was very surprised. I wasnt expecting him to be this sweet so quick!

Well I put my hand in the cage slowly, and he glided to the back of the cage. I rested my hand on the pirch for another 15 min. watching the movie when i felt the pirch move, and when i turned around he was on the pirch staring at me. LOL he is SOOOO cute! anyway, I left it there for a little while more and then slowly moved it under his belly. He doesnt yet know the step up comand yet, so I sort of had to push him to get on.

Once he was on my finger, he sat there not to comfterbly, but loosend up. He stayed there for a very long time (pooping on me once or twice ) lol. He nipped me just once, and not even hard. He was very sweet for not being tame. Well I put him back in the cage and closed the door.


Thats what I basicly did today. He really made A LOT of proggress!!!
