    ummm puppy poop question

Honestly, where else can we all talk about poop but Pet Talk

I have a question--Abbey and Kito each poop twice a day--once in the morning and once before bed. Riley, on the other hand, is a pooping machine!!!!! Last night he was out around 10pm and pooped, and before bed he went into the basement and pooped--13 turds--yes, I counted . Then, about 7am I took him out, and he went again, I didn't count this time, but it was a lot. He went, then wandered around in his squatting position, then went some more, then he had a "dangler" (ewwwwww), and it was bothering him--he kept trying to bite at it (double eewwwwwww), then he squatted again and went some more!!!!!
How can such a little pup go so much??
Is that normal for puppies--to be such pooping machines??

When Taggert did that, we had to change foods for him. Snoopy used to poop alot but now he is down to twice a day. My thought is that the food may not be for him. Are you giving him puppy food or adult food? Our dogs eat a lamb and rice formula which seems to work better for them.

Do you limit how much he eats? Snoopy will eat everyones food if they don't finish it or feel like eating at the same time he does. Often we end up putting food up so he can't eat all the others.

Our dogs also seem to poop less after switching to a higher quality (from Iams to Sensible Choice) Lamb and rice food. Sadie still poops more then Cincy, but I think that is just cause she has a higher metabolism.

Keegan usually poops three times a day. Once when we get up in the morning, again usually before I go to work and again when I get home.
She eats Sensible Choice Lamb and Rice reduced calorie. What kind of food is he on? He might not be absorbing it as much as he should. But 13 turds is ALOT! sheesh!
But as he grows he will probably reduce the amount. He just doesn't have the room in there like the bigger dogs!

Wow 13 turds!!! Thats a lot of poop for one dog! lol

Our dogs are fed 2 times a day, and they usually
poop 2 times a day in more than one pile.
Pepper on the otherhand is always finding stuff to eat
and she can poop 3 times a day.

Don't know what to tell you about Riely. 13 TURDS!!!!

Sorry, but I can't help laugh!

I was wondering the same also, what kind of food does he eat? I noticed when we changed the dogs to a higher quality food they didn't eat as much, so therefore they didn't poop as much.

hmm well I have to ask, are his stools firm or are they like diahrea almost? Is the colour good on them, and are they consistantly the same looking?

If they are not normal, you might want to speak with the vet, but a couple things first.

1.) What food is he on (like everyone else wants to know
2.) Have you recently switched foods... if so..
3.) Did you switch too quickly?
4.) Have you been giving him a lot of wet food or different treats lately, aka is he on a dry kibble diet mostly?

I would take into consideration any possible food allergies to whatever formula you are feeding him, so please tell me if it's like chicken or beef, or a fish or a lamb formula etc.

And I also agree IF it is due to the food you are feeding, try a better higher grade brand. Or if your already feeding him a high grade food, try switching him to a different high grade food.

He is strictly on dry food. I did switch, but a while ago. He is on walmart food--Abbey loves it too, and she's healthy, but Kito has to have Nutro--he is so picky!!!
Since I posted that, it was only a one-time thing, he's been more "regular"
