    is kai territorial?

My brother was getting in Kai's crate for fun..and I locked him in with my pe lock...LOL. Kai started barking ALOT at my brother. It was almost vicious..he was trying to bite him. When my brother came out, Kai nipped him on the head. Is he just saying this is his area?

I would take it as a a sign that Kai was defending his property. As long as your brother doesn't do this again, I don't think Kai should be agrressive toward him. Mickey barks all the time when someone is on our property, but he never has when someone gets near his crate...

A friend of my husband's brought his 18-month old son over a while ago, who thought that the pen for the dogs was so great!! Kito being a little skittish around kids, was great with him, until he went into the pen--he just started barking at him!! The kid was hilarious though--instead of getting scared, he barked back!!!

I'm sure it was just Kai showing that that is HIS place, and he doesn't want anyone in there.

Kai does that too! He's a 24/7 personal alarm system!

I'm sure Kai was just being possessive. After all their crate is their home and the place they can go to be safe. Our dogs don't care much who goes into their "homes". Oreo has trapped both Snoopy and Taggert in their when they were trying to steal her food however.

We crate our dogs overnight and during the day when we are not home. Before we got the new pups, Oreo and Dazzi were not crated as often cause they have both been around long enough to know how to not get into trouble. When we got Taggert, we thought we wouldn't get a new crate. Since Oreo was 13, we would just give Taggert hers and she could be free. Well, she was okay with that for about a month and then she reclaimed her "home" and didn't want Taggert using it anymore. So Taggert got a new crate. When we got Snoopy, we did the same thing, thinking we would wait awhile before we got a new crate. But Oreo was taking no chances - within two days, she had announced that was her home and no other pup could have it at night or during the day when we were gone. Crazy pups!!!!

Max defends his crate, too. He lets me in it (I have to go there to put his dog food in), but he won't let Jake near it. He's like a teenager saying "Stay out of my room!!!"

    Thanks for the siggy, Lexi_Lover!
