    new cats

I have 2 new cats, males, here tonight. they are in a bedroom by themselves, and the other cats and I are in the rest of the house, I am sleeping in the living room tonight.

these cats are BEAUTIFUL!! I will post pics soon... both are longhair, white, one has orange spots and the other one, has dark grey or black spots.

I have always known my kitties are very good cats, but I found out again tonight just how good they are...those 2 are wild! hissing and spitting like! I have never heard it that bad before. I know they are scared, but wow!

I was not impressed in the least by the previous owners... they brought them tonight, no carrier, just each holding one... and nothing with them...which is ok since I have everything I need for them, extra box and food etc. I guess it is just that I would do it so different if I had to give away my cats(I don't even want to think of having to do such a thing) I would want them to have their familiar things.. oh I can't even stand to think of it... my cats will be with me forever, til they or I die! no matter where I go, they will be with me!
one of the cats scratched me on the face, drew blood! guess I learned my lesson for holding him! and then later he scratched the lady! the other one watched them leave , sat at the screen door and watched as they walked away.. it was very sad, I don't think they people were too bothered, well maybe they were, but I felt so sad watching the cat sit there looking!

I don't know if I did the right thing by bringing them into this house, they swatted at cassie, the only one friendly or brave enough to get near them! I got them in to the bedroom as soon as possible, and kept Cassie away from them.

well this is going to be interesting... will post again soon and let you all know how it is going.

Sigh. So sorry you and they are having such trauma. Fingers and paws crossed here for you that things settle down quickly.

so now there are 4 boys and 3 girls in the house, first time ever that the boys have outnumberd the girls!

I have a question, I wasn't sure if I should post it here or in cat behavior...anyway, I have checked on the new cats a couple times, and they are not together... when Emma and Louise were new to the household, they stuck together, these 2 don't, and they are 2 year old littermates, isn't that unusual? or not? now I'm wondering if they wouldnt be bothered by being separated?
well I have only had them a few hours, I know it will take time for them to adjust, but if anyone has any ideas on the matter of them not sticking together ...?

also.. I am staying away from them tonight(other than checking on them a few times) and then I thought I would spend some time in the room tomorrow, not bothering them just being in there so they could slowly get used to me...

new update... I just went in there to check on them for the last time tonight, and one was still under the bed but did not hiss when I peeked, and the one ON the bed only hissed when I came too close, but they both have those beautiful, sweet eyes, they are just frightened! I think they are going to be little sweethearts when they adjust... I think I am already falling for them. tomorrow I will just go in there and wait for them to come to me. earlier, the one actually touched noses with Cassie before he hissed and swatted. i wasn't happy about the contact, but it was before I could get them into the bedroom. I asked the people, and they said they don't have any upper respiratory, I hope thats true!. anyway Im out of luck with the medical records!

Just because cats are litter mates does not mean they actually LIKE each other. And cats that live together may not even like each other (just ask Logan). So it does not surprise me that they are not together.
They WILL swipe at and attack your cats at this stage. I suggest NO contact until they are at least settled down themselves. And be prepared, this may take a while.
Good luck. What are their names (I don't think you said).

I hope they adjust quickly. It will probably take a few days. I can't wait to see some pictures. It sounds like they are beautiful.

    Mary,

Something tells me these cats haven't seen a vet in a while, if at all. And because there are no vet records, I hope you realize that you'll have to have them tested all over again for Feline Aids and Leukemia, as well as vaccinate them BOTH before they are exposed to your other cats.

    Gosh!

Didn't those people show any emotion whatsover about leaving their kitties behind? I was devistated when I left home and moved to Brisbane, and left my two furbabies in their native home with Mum and my brother. Technically, they weren't being abandoned or anything, but I was just so sad to leave my two darlings behind. Good luck with the two boys and we are looking forward to some pics!

you are right. and I know I have to keep them separated.. which I am doing. my cats have calmed down now that I am doing the same schedule with them and staying with them! they are my first worry. and the new boys need time alone. my cats even got the crazies last night, it was cute! the only difference is the shut door, which Miss Cassie has already tried to open, I had to secure it(block it on the other side) and I did this just in time! so even if she should reach the handle and Im betting she will do it, the door will not open, and I have a side door outside to go in and out with. there will be NO contact, I am not going to see my babies hurt or catch a disease!

I want you 2 to know how much I appreciate your help and advice! I know you think Im wacky!

Congratulations on your new additions! I'm sure they are just scared, and like you say, they will be lovebugs once they settle in. Good luck with everything, and please do keep us updated....with pics of course.

Well congrats on your new additions. I know it will take some time for them, especially since it looks like the old owners couldn't be bothered with them in any way shape or form.

Definetely get them to the vets for a check up and shots, just to be safe.

    BTW.. what are the names??

ok, when I got home, after I fed my five, I went in to check on the 2 new ones... and one was so friendly! no more hissing, just a lovable kitty, rubbed against my legs and meowed, and meowed more! then he turned over and let me rub his tummy! still did not want to be picked up, but thats ok... and the other one never came out from under the bed... but I peeked again, he's ok. after a while I left them alone again.. . and then Patches and the one that was still hiding, were looking at each other... my bedroom glass doors and the glass doors in the den face each other with a common patio... so they could see each other! I think they were looking at one another for quite some time by time I noticed this... I went over to Patches and pet him, and talked to him and then he got up, and oh he had to stretch! you know how they do after they have been in the same position for a long time?

names? well I like Jack and Oscar. I think the white/tan/black one will be Jack and the orange and white one wil be Oscar (the grouch LOL)

will post pics as soon as I can...

Congratulations on the new additions! As far as them not sticking together... don't worry about that! ANy time I have introduced a newcomer to my clan ... all the residents get nervous and hiss and slap at eachother like they are suddenly strangers to eachother! It's just nervousness .... it will wear off soon! Sounds like the one is already calming down!

    GOOD LUCK!

    I need more advice!

yeah, so I thought! well it will just take some time, its only been just over 24 hours. but after I posted about the one(Jack) being friendly, the next time I went in there he was scared and hissing again, and ran under the bed. but I got him to come back over to me and then I got him to play a little, no cat can resist a string toy!

and Oscar the grouch was peeking out from under the bed, ...I saw that nose!

but what really worries me is... Oscar hisses and swats at Jack, and now even when they are alone... I just heard a big REOW!! and hiss, and my five cats all ran over to the door or stood looking toward it!

do you think Oscar will attack Jack, if Jack tries to be close to him? should I put one in the den?? maybe Jack would come around faster without Oscar!??

    advice please!!

Congrats on adopting Jack and Oscar!!! I'm sure they'll adjust soon. It just takes time. I do agree that you need to keep them separated from your other cats until you have them tested and their shots updated. Did you ask the owners if the two cats got along? As Jen had mentioned earlier, just beause they're littermates and live together doesn't mean they like each other. I'd also love to see pics. They sound gorgeous.
