    The Ferrari of litter trays!!!

I was cruising around Petsmart.com and saw this fully automatic litter tray that runs from the house plumbing. It even washes and dries the kitty litter! And I'm thinking, yeah, $US27.99 plus a bit for delivery, I can do that to try one of these babies out.

Oops, I missed the decimal place, that's $US279.99!

    LitterFree Self-Washing Litter Box
A four-step process ensures that the LitterFree will always be clean, odor-free and ready for cats to use. Instead of conventional cat litter, it is filled with washable granules that are treated and sanitized during each cleaning cycle. The LitterFree is designed to be attached to your home's plumbing system, which allows it to wash waste into a closed chamber, where it's converted to wastewater, which is then flushed away. The washable granules are then cleansed and treated with LitterFree cleaning solution to eliminate any odor-causing material and help reduce odors between cleaning cycles. An internal fan then blows hot air to dry the granules so they're always ready for cats to use. The only routine maintenance you'll need to perform is to replace the cleaning solution cartridge approximately once every two months for one cat, and to replace the dust free granules once every 6 months. The LitterFree arrives with everything you need to hook it up to the plumbing system, and includes a removable hood for cats that require more privacy.

Wow! What will they think of next. I wonder how well this would work and if it's good in multi-cat households. Did it say how long it takes to complete the cleaning cycle?

WOW! If it really works, I'd say the price is worth it. That's so cool. Now cats can go use a *toilet* LOL

I couldn't find anything on that. Maybe it cleans itself several times a day. Might be a bit scary if it starts cleaning while there's a cat in there!

That's what I was thinking or it might take so long to clean that the cat can't wait any longer and they end up going on the floor.

I don't think she bought it. She just found it on Petsmart's website.

    I want one!

What a good idea! Too bad it is $300!! I know in the long run it would save you a lot on cat litter, but that is still a lot of money!

    Sounds interesting

    Full Article at www.dig-it.com/102,534,modules.php

The Litterfree device is a catbox with a hood that contains plastic granules, instead of the usual clumping or clay litter. It’s hooked up to the toilet water supply and once a day it sucks fresh water into the box, grinds up the cat poo using a concealed blade and slushes it through a pipe that inserts under the toilet seat. (You have to manually flush afterwards.)

The device has a timer that triggers a cleaning at 11am, once a day, though you can program it to clean more often or at other times.

It took Roo several days to get used to the box. It makes a horrendous Cuisinart noise when it goes into poo grinding mode. Roo was not impressed.

One concern is that the box won’t sense when a cat is in it. The manufacturer says that the water and noise is enough to scare a cat away, however no harm is done if the cat refuses to exit the box. That said, imagine how you’d feel if your bathroom suddenly filled up with several inches of detergent-laced water and the toilet made blender noises.

That was my first thought too! I think that this litter-box will only work in a "one-cat-household" ! It is also far to expensive...
