    Scratching

I have a five month old British blue who is totally adorable but he scratches the furniture......not everything just the one or two places and also sometimes the carpet. He has scratching posts which he uses but how can i discourage this behaviour. I would appreciate any advice.
    Thank you

Double sided sticky tape or a product called Sticky Paws...which is basically the same thing. I have found that works wonders for those one or two areas of furniture that they obsess on.

    Welcome to Pet Talk.

I have heard that moving your scratching post alongside the furniture which is scratched can help.

Also I think someone of PetTalk suggested drapping blanket over the furniture

Whenever you see him scratch, yell out a loud "NO!" or make any loud noise. You could try to get him to use a scratching post.

There are also products like "cat off" which you can spray directly onto the furniture (or a rag and tack it to the furnture). Combined with some catnip rubbed into the scratching post and a good aim with the squirt bottle it should help things along.

    Good luck

I stopped Bastet doing the furniture scratching thing by draping old rugs over the furniture and using a vinegar/water combination spray. She hated it so much she doesn't scratch the furniture anymore...

back to fixing the cat scratching pole ... AGAIN

Thanks for all these suggestions, so far putting the scratchpost by the chair he was scratching seems to work. Fingers crossed i think!.
