well i went in for the job...

i went with my friend to that pet store today. i decided to look around first and check out the area. its changed since i last went. anyways, me and my friend where looking at the most adorable GSD puppy (he was such a cutie, i was in love) but i hated that they had him and two cats there. it didn't look good...anyways. this lady came up to us and said something, so my friend left us to talk and i asked if she needed any help. she asked for either volunteer or work. at the time, i just wanted to be around these animals so i said volunteer or work. so she told me for volunteer was good. we exchanged names and numbers and she asked me some questions about availability. i was excited because i figure di had a job but then i mentionned it to my mom and she brought it up that they're going to make me do all the hard work for free and they'll be getting the money i deserve. so tomorrow, i'm going to go in and tell her if she doesn't pay me, to forget it. i know you might think volunteer is still good but i'm not gonna work to give someone else my money. oh well. she mentionned i am too young to work for money now. i guess next year, i could try again. for now, i'll keep looking...

oh yeah, and i did the STUPIDEST thing. my friend and i were walking home and we were right at me house. my mom opened the door with mickey in her arms. i know how much mickey loves to see other people so i took him and put him down. my mom kept saying "no, he could run away" but i didn't think so. (duh, i'm an idiot) so he was staying with my friend a bit and just started running down the sidewalk. i was chasing after him yelling "stay, mickey! stay!" and was freaking out. luckily, he stopped by the time he got to the street. i deserve a kick in the butt for that one. i'm so happy he's okay but next time we might not be so lucky. gotta learn from this one

    Hi Prima!

I know it's hard to quell the instinct to chase'em, when you
think they're running off, but next time try excitedly calling his
name and then running in the opposite direction from him. By
running after him yelling "Stay", you've more or less taught him
that "Stay" means run from you.

You might also wanna start working on the "Come" Command.
Put a leash on him, Call his name and "Come", then excitedly run
a few steps from him. Stop as he comes to you, Praise and give
him a treat. He should naturally come to you as you run from
him, but if he doesn't that's what the leash is for. Reel him in to
you, praise and treat. Basically you want to only give the
command, when you can enforce it, so that he doesn't get
confused or decide "Come" doesn't always mean "Come".

He's still a puppy. It takes time and practice. Oz does "Come"
pretty good, but even him I wouldn't trust 100% to come if
something really interesting crossed his path, like a herd of
    sheep.

You might want to teach Mickey a down drop. It's down while they are moving, we taught it so you can get them to down and maybe save a life. it was part of our 4-h training you can give the command and save them from running out in front of a car.
Sorry about the job but maybe you could volenteer at a shelter . or a vets office it teaches you lots about animals and running a business.

thanks. my mom mentioned to me about this vet's office and she said she'd mention it next time she goes. as for the SPCA...it is really far from my house which would create a problem.

about the down drop. how do you teach that?
