I'm thinking of buying a couple of these for my cats, but first I wanted to ask if anyone has these and do you like them? do they work well, are they safe?

We had one for Neko and Cookie when we lived in the apartment. It held up well and they loved it!

I love my furkid Neko!
^TAMA^ 8/24/00 - 4/27/12 Thank you for being in my lifeI love you always and forever
I used to have one - my cat Boo loved it! The only bad part is the kind I had, you need to drill through the window sill to anchor it (i was renting and I did it anyway). I still have it, but where I live now there aren't any ideal windows to put it up in. I do have one window where it would work, but it would hang over my bed, and it is the side of the house facing the neighbor's and I don't like leaving those drapes open. I suppose the cats could go behind the drapes, but I 'd rather not have the neighbors peeking in my bedroom windows!
I have two of them. One is a ledge, the other is a hammock. My cats haven't used them in a while because the windows they're in face a boring funeral home parking lot.

We have 2 of them now, and had 3 at one point! We've tried all the different kinds; the flat ones with a cushion, and the saggy, hammock-type ones. Kitty loves all of them, of course; he's always in the windows anyway, so now he can be comfy while he's staring at nothing outside.I have a home-made one for the bedroom window where the shelf rests on the windowsill and there are 2 legs resting on the dresser. I made it out of a flat piece of wood, some foam rubber and fleece fabric, and pre-made furniture legs that I got at a hardware store. I know the hammock-style one we had to drill into the windowsill for, but the other one is held up by a long strip of velcro along the window track, and the homemade one is held in place by a chain and hook underneath the window sill where you can't see it. The one in the office is behind a set of draw drapes, so the drapes just have to bulge out around it when they're closed, like this:
I would definitely recommend getting at least one!![]()

The legend says that Mohammed adored cats. When one of them was sleeping on his sleeve and he had to go out, Mohammed supposedly cut off the sleeve so as not to disturb his pet.

thanks for the advice.and ,all creatures, thanks for the pics! I think I will go ahead and buy a couple of them tomorrow.![]()
(don't tell the kitties, it's a surprise!)
My cats have two, and they really like them. I would recommend the ones with the hammock and where you have to drill - they make more mess of the sill but I think they are safer. The one that is flat but has no supports against the wall hangs down and I'm always afraid it will fall.
I think the key to getting them to use them is 1: spray with spray catnip. It'll pique their curiosity. 2: put it in a window where there's alot of action going on outside.

thanks for the adviceI'm glad I asked.
ACGAS- can I give you my order??? Those look great!
I have the fleece one that attaches to the sill with velcro. I have marble sills, so, drilling is not an option. The one I have is very supportive..though the fleece got a little saggy, but I fixed it up. My cats love it. I always have one in it...and get a "leetle" nervous when two or more clime up. It says it only holds 35 pounds...so, with Tenny and Dakky, we are close. Add Georgia, and things could get ugly. Mine is facing the backyard, in my bedroom. Like ACGAS, the curtain goes around it, and the cats play "swami". (I did end up cutting the curtain and shears short, in a fit of rage one night, after discovering that the litter box was directly underneath the curtains...and the pee pee 'wicked' up the material. It didn't cross my mind to wash them...I just took a scissor to them.)
Oops - I'm a little embarrassed now - those pictures are of the store-bought kitty shelf. The one I made is here:
Not too shabby though, and it doesn't attach to the top of the sill so it doesn't damage the wood. This one could hold plenty of weight since it rests on the dresser, not on the wall. The only downside is that I stapled the fabric on, so I'd have to re-staple it if I wanted to take it off and wash it. I spot clean it with a lint brush. If I had any sewing talent whatsoever, I'd make an elastic-edged cover that I could slip on or off. I think the next one I make will be the entire length of the window, so he can pace back and forth on it when the "visitor" kitties are under the window![]()

My cats love their perch. It's wedged behind the radiator.

I wish we had another window so I could get another one. ALL four of the cats LOVE their window perch.
How did it work out for you? Do they love theirs???
...RIP, our sweet Gini...
My dad made me one for Kylie in "her" closet.
She seems to like it tho, it isn't very high. And she doesn't have much to look at. She uses it when Keegan and I go outside, she sits and watches us. I think this spring I might get a bird feeder and put it outside the window.
