    Ananda

Ananda, you're so sweet! I'm glad you feel comfortable with your owner now, after living on the streets. You're such a sweet kitty.

To Ananda's owner: I know you mean well with washing Ananda with soap and water weekly, but you're not supposed to wash a cat at all! Cats clean themselves and do a marvelous job! Soap is not good for cats, the cat will loose its cat-scent (it needs scent for other cats) and soap also dries out a cat's fur. Only wash a cat when it is really really dirty, like very muddy or has oily substance on its fur. Otherwise you're only harming your cat by washing it with soap and water.

To wash or not to wash..

I'm so glad Olivia mentioned that cats take perfect care of themselves - I just forgot about it in my original message. Olivia's absolutely right, of course!

The extra attention you give stray kitties like Amanda, helping them get used to humans, will make her even more special to you. She's one of the lucky ones.

Ananda, what a fine red fellow you are! Even though it is not necessary to bathe cats frequently, show cats are and don't seem the worse for wear. You just need the right shampoo (and, of course, a cooperative cat!)

hello all... first of all she's a girl!! don't know why they put male

anyways, I wash the cat weekly because I'm allergic to cats and without this I wouldn't be able to handle the dander... she doesn't mind and I of course use shampoo especially made for cats...

First. let me welcome you Aklor to Pet Talk. I was also going to comment about washing your kitty weekly, but when i read your reason for it I have to commend you for taking in a kitty even though you are allergic to them. Congratulations!

Second, Ananda you are such a cutie pie and i just love your name.
Congratulations sweetie on being our COTD.
Lots of kitty hugs and kisses for you on your special day.

Hi Aklor (welcome to Cat Chat) and Adorable Ananda (Congratulations)!!! I live in Arizona too, in Scottsdale!!! Ananda's is a beautiful little baby, with a coat that's shiney and silky, I'm sure from all her washing! You are a very patient Purr-ent, and it's wonderful how you rescued your baby!!!

My husband has asthma, and when our kitties were little, maybe for the first 4 weeks or so, we bathed them too. They didn't mind too much, and when they got all dried off they seemed to literally prance around, displaying their new silky coat! Now that they're older and clean themselves, we've stopped bathing them, but we read somewhere that the kitten dander is the worst for allergies. As long as you make sure all the soap is rinsed out and Ananda doesn't seem to mind. I think they get used to the routine really. Sometimes it seemed like just a simple water bath, with NO soap, even helped clean them gently, and they loved it in our HOT Arizona summers!!!!

Have a great COTD Day, Ananda, and a GREAT weekend to you both!!!!

    What a cute kitten :-)

Ananda you look very similar to my tomcat, Manny. He was a stray too. So you like to chew tails of your toy mice. I am glad you don't mind a bath. I used to bathe my three females and they would hate it. You certainly are a cutie. Congratulations on being Cat Of The Day! I hope you get lots of mice tails and loving from your purrrents. I defintely want to see pictures of you when you grow up.

I'll bet Ananda hears everything that happens within a four-block radius of wherever he happens to be. Look at those ears!

My admiration goes out not only to the wonderful Ananda but to the grand lady who had the patience to take in the son of wild cat, wild and shy himself, and aculturate him to a home that he at first feared but in which he was safe.

As far as the baths - I will forward this to my daughter in Fairbanks who has asthma but who refuses to live without a cat. Of course, there is no running water in her little cabin, so I don't think she will be giving poor Slick - also a rescue cat - a weekly bath.

We will be visiting family in Arizona very soon. We will keep our eyes open for Ananda.
