Pepper Threw Up Blood & May Be Much Sicker Than I Relalized

Hi everyone. As many of you know Pepper has been throwing up food and sometimes liquid. Well this morning he threw up blood. It's very hard for me to talk about this because I'm very upset right now. I called the vet and he told me to bring him in asap. I brought him in and he's also running a fever. His temperature was 106 degrees. When he's at the vet it usually runs between 102 and 103 because he becomes very stressed. He has also lost another pound so he now weighs about 15lbs. He may have an ulcer or it could be pancreatitus or he may have a polup or tumor in his stomach. I stopped giving him the prednisolone pills because this is will aggrevate his stomach and make it worse. The vet gave him some IV fluids and an injection of some kind of antibiotic. He's also on 3 kinds of pills for the next 5 days. He's on flagyl (metronidazole) 1 pill 2 times a day, carafate to help sooth his stomach 1/2 pill 2 times a day, and reglan 1 pill 2-3 times a day for nausea. I'm also supposed to feed him small amounts of food every few hours. He also had another blood test which includes a thyroid and some kind of test for his pancreas. I should get the results later today or tomorrow morning. He still needs another type of pancreas test but he must fast for this so we'll wait on that for now. He may also need to have an ultrasound. There are a few other more invasive tests that he may need to but I already told the vet that I really don't want to put him through these since he's been through so much already. I called my boss and told him that I wouldn't be in today and I starting crying since it's very hard for me to talk about. He said he understands and to do whatever I need to do. Please say some prayers for my poor Pepper. He's been through so much. Thank you.

Oh Tracey, I'm so very sorry to hear that Pepper is so ill! I hope it's nothing serious and that these new pills will help! I can imagine what you're going through, - luckily your boss understands!

I don't know much about the medicine he's getting, apart from Prednisolone and I'm I sure it's a good idea to get him off these!!

Let him get some rest in calm surroundings (I bet you already do) and make sure he gets some liquid.

We'll all keep our fingers and paws crossed for dear Pepper.

Same for me. I'm so sorry to hear Pepper isn't doing any better, and actually seems to be getting worse.

I'm glad your boss is so understanding - helps your stress level a bit. Give the others a hug and smooch from me because I'm sure they know something is going on with their brother.

Oh Darn Oh Darn Sweet Pepper. it is such a shame when our cats become ill, we can't understand what they are going through for they cannot talk and let us know. We'd like to just take all of their illness and give it to ourselves. First I found out about Bassett, and now Pepper. I wish i could give you some medical advice but it seems your vet has done that already. You seem very educated on what Pepper needs, and that is a sign of a true and caring doctor. Let's all keep our paws crossed that Pepper's doctor can fix him back up in no time. Your mommy loves you Pepper, and your two brothers two. You will get over your illness as soon as possible

Oh no, Tracey, I'm so sorry. My heart is going out to you and Pepper right now. I hope the test results help out with finding Pepper's illness, poor little boy. We are thinking of you and your babies and hoping like mad that he'll be OK.
