Not Pet Related- BUT... Important Message!!!

I work in a hospital and many of you know that Cell Phone use in a hospital is prohibited.
The frequency of the cell phone causes the heart monitors of patients to go outta wack I think.
Tonight there was a lady talking on her cell phone and I said to her companions "She isn't to be using a cell phone in the hospital" And her daughters (?) said "OH! Get off of it" and she said in a snotty SNOTTY voice "I know I am not supposed to use it and all you can do is tell me not too, you can't do anything about it" and her ?daughters said "If you aren't supposed to use it why are you doing it?" And she said, again snottily "What is she gonna do shoot me?"
She would probably be the first one that threw a fit if someone was using a cell phone and causing her loved one to go haywire. We don't have security at our hospital so we have to say stuff ourselves. But with attitudes like that why would I? I was having a bad enough night and that on top of it.
I realize this is a stressful time of year, but there was no reason for that. I have seen more nastiness this Christmas than ever before. I had just xrayed a 17 year old that was in a car wreck and I don't think the other passengers were going to make it. They were around that age too. And this woman is treating me like the dirt under her shoe when she just had a grandchild. I would hate to see her under stress!!
Sorry for the off topic, But I think this is a good message for those who didn't know you shouldn't use cell phones in hospitals.

wow - that's awful. Some people really do have a selfish attitude - it's all about them, you know.

Can you call security and have them escort her outside? My brother and his wife just had a baby last week and you can be sure I shut my phone off before I walked into the hospital to visit them.

Opps - I missed the part where you said you don't have security. Back-up plan - grab her phone away from her head, throw it on the ground and stomp on it?

A little extreme, I know. I do have a cell phone, but honestly, I hate it.

I agree, that this time of year stresses some people greatly. Just this past weekend at a mall food court, someone thought they were short-changed and they called security, over something so little.

someone should have gone over and grabbed it out of her hands and said what'cha gonna do, shoot me?
I can tell you that if someone in my family was in the hospitol and I saw her, I would have thrown the cell phone in a toilet! rules are rules, and besides, have some consideration for the well being of others...(oopps, my holiday spirit went on a break)

I completey agree that people have been at their nastiest this holiday season. Yesterday at work I have never run into more nasty people in one day!! All of a sudden everyone had a problem with their animal and wanted to been seen right away and we were booked up in the morning so of course we get an attitude from everyone. It's really rude. And plus people don't understand that if you are rude to us we will NOT go out of our way for you. However, if you are nice to us, we will do whatever we can to give you an appointment.
OH well, hopefully today is better for both of us!! Merry christmas!!

How true! I work for an ophthalmologist and you should just hear how nasty people can be when they can't be squeezed into an already tight schedule - - and only for a routine eye appointment. My dad always said 'you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar' and I never forgot that.

What I have unfortunately noticed this season is the extreme rudeness of drivers, particularly around the mall! Don't they realize that the reason they are shopping in the first place is to celebrate the birth of the Prince of PEACE! Geesh! Humans! No wonder we love our animals so much!

I have a pet peeve about people talking on cell phones anyways, I think it is rude, since I don't really want to hear half of a conversation, but this is too much. I really feel for you.

I'm going to try and make things better, by being friendly and polite, hopefully it will spread!

I totally agree with your dad! As a matter of fact, me & Mark were talking about that same thing just last night!

Oh, people have been terrible! Trying to get out of the mall after work has been terrible! I've had to wait about 5 minutes just for some nice person to come along & stop for me to get out of the parking lot

I think people forget what Christmas is all about.

I too, have noticed that not too many people have a Christmas spirit this year.

These are difficult times, many people are out of a job, money is in slim supply and we may find ourselves at war in the new year.

I think many times there are "undertones" in peoples lives such as the above, and they cannot express their fears, frustrations or unhappiness with others. So it comes out in squabbles over cell phones and people are nasty. They cannot control what is going on in the world, but boy are they going to control the use of that phone.

I am sorry that you had to deal with this, especially with the huge stress working with other patients.

I for one, would like to reach out and give you a big hug for just being patient. Come on Pet Talk and blow off the steam - all of us will listen and care!

This is exactly why I no longer enjoy Christmas...I find it really depressing. I probably would have looked at the woman and wished her a happy holiday and hope that she enjoys making peoples' heart moniters malfunction.

Well the kicker of the thing is, I found out today that this lady is a respiratory therapist and used to work at our hospital!!! nice, huh!
I was really glad that I had never worked with her!!! She probably enjoys it when she sets the heart monitors off!!

    Staci,

I know how rudeness can almost ruin the Christmas spirit
for us. I'm sorry that you had to have that added stress on
the job as well. I know what will cheer you up Forget that
obnoxious women and play the e-mail video of Santa groovin
to some cool jazz ,or maybe some country music. That was
so funny, I think I played it 6 or 7 times on Friday alone.

Hope you get your Christmas groove back
Merry Christmas to you & yours from Liz & Moki.

    Well said!

Sorry you had to deal with such a butt-head, Staci. People are so unpredictable these days. In cars, in check out lines. It's pathetic. I was at the mall the other day and was waiting for someone to back out of his parking space. This wasn't a space that was anywhere NEAR the mall. It was a little bit of a walk but I figured there was no sense driving around looking and I could use the exercise. Well, evidentally this person behind me thought the guy wasn't backing out fast enough for her liking and leaned on the horn. I just smiled and waved to her and she drove past, flicking both of us off. Talk about rude!

    Have a great holiday everyone!
