    Goofy kitty (with goofy owner)

This is something my kitty does that is so weird, I wondered if anybody else's cat is like this. (Warning - bad visuals will be involved in this tale ) My cat WILL NOT lay on exposed skin. If it's summer and I'm wearing a pair of shorts, or maybe I'm getting dressed for work and just sat down in my undies for a bit, he will jump up on my lap (well, legs) as usual, but totally freak out if he lands on skin, or he will come up beside me and just stand there looking expectant but not go on my lap. If I pick him up and put him on bare skin, he flies right back off. (Da kitty said "I don't want to lay on no Ed Gein sofa!! I don't like no 'leather' furniture!) Anybody else notice this with their kitties?
The legend says that Mohammed adored cats. When one of them was sleeping on his sleeve and he had to go out, Mohammed supposedly cut off the sleeve so as not to disturb his pet.

Filou is different. He loves freshly showered humans and is already stalking on the bath tub when I come out of the shower. If I'm not quick enough (and I'm famous for being slow in the morning), he lands on my bare shoulders. This is why I have so many tiny little scratches there

    The opposite

I have the opposite problem with Graemer and Miley. When they crawl under the covers at night, the actually dig at my night clothes to get them "up" so that they can feel my skin. I know, it sounds awful, but they sleep down around my lower legs or between my lower legs.

I had one cat, years ago, that would sleep between the top sheet and the comforter only. Never next to my skin or on top of the comforter.

    They are all weird!

Emily absolutely refuses to sleep on bare skin . Usually she will only sit on my lap if I have a blanket over top of me and she will only sleep on top of the duvet, but NEVER under the blankets... go figure

Bastet loves to lick my skin *bad visual I know* - loves to sleep next to my skin but hates and I mean HATES certain kinds of fabrics - Satin, silk and wool that I know of at present.

Bassett doesn't like bare skin but it's more like she knows *I* don't like it. Bare skin has NO claw protection!!!

Tilly and Nutmeg don't care. They will lay on my lap whether I'm wearing pants or shorts.

Hmm...let me think about this one for a minute. Ritzy has kind of a "time and place" thing with the bare skin issue.

She is more comfortable being held when I am wearing a big sweatshirt, but at night she cuddles up next to my bare arm.

She will only sit in my lap on the couch if I put a warm towel there first (spoiled spoiled spoiled)

She HATES sheepskin fabric stuff, which I find interesting because so many cat beds are made of this....come to think of it, the vet has that stuff lining the weight scales....perhaps there is a connection? (you know Ritzy, Catzilla at vets?)

Purr Padds, she loves....and I think these things feel like they are made out of the same stuff as floor scouring pads, itchy and nasty....but go figure, this is her favorite sleeping spot in the office... However, I put a purr padd on the couch downstairs and she won't go near it.

    More research needed

    too funny.

can't say I've ever noticed this trait. But I did have a similar event in that my shiest little girl Fern, while she was still trying to break out of her hard shell, would finally sit on my lay ONLY if a newspaper or book was between her and me.

Ah yes, the best serial killers seem to come from Wisconsin.... - Ed Gein was from the fifties, I believe, and was the inspiration for the movie "Psycho". My mom used to tell us a few things about him when we were kids, but fortunately she didn't go into grisly detail. I do know that he made things out of human skin (shudder) - what a freak!!!!

As usual, I love hearing about all your kitties and their habits - they are funny little creatures, aren't they?

I don't think mine care at all! Skin, clothes, towels, paper..they lay on it. I have one cat, Allie, that will tunnel under my clothes, and, like Barbara, she jumps on my shoulders, or into my arms to get to my shoulders, as soon as I come out of the shower..whether I am looking/expecting it or not! Ouch!

My cat Scooter is not what you could call a cuddly cat, the only time he will cuddle is when I have just come out of the shower. Perhaps he thinks people are dirty or something! And he never sits all the way on my lap, he is half on and half off (thankfully, since he is 20 pounds!)
Another strange thing about Scooter is that he just hates it when I wear my hair in a ponytail! I don't know why, but he will jump on my shoulder and pull on the end of the ponytail as hard as he can. He never does this when I wear my hair down.
