    Thursdays #472 Chocoholics UNITE!

Well, just made a Denver Chocolate pudding, it's sitting waiting to be eaten...

To stay true to the theme, I brought a bottle of Godiva chocolate liqueur for everyone.

Just seems like a nice night to sit by the fire and pig out on some chocolate. Any takers?

Oh, yes, I had been planning on making some for potluck last weekend, but as my body was at war with food at that point, I didn't. So some Denver Chocolate Pudding for me, please!

For those not in the know, it's not a pudding, per se, it's this amazing brownie-like concoction that gets a crust on top and forms it's own fudge sauce just below the surface. Yummmmmmmmmm!

One Denver Chocolate pudding for the mayor!

How about some chocolate croissants and mocha for breakfast? While chocolate omelets are possible, they've never been high on my list. We could do Crepes with chocolate sauce, though.

Sure, and all the ingredients are likely stuff you've already got on hand, so it's quick and easy!

Denver Chocolate Pudding (from a previous edition of the Fannie Farmer Cookbook)

    Sift Together:
    3/4 cup white sugar
    1 cup flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/8 tsp salt

    Melt Togther
    1 square of dark chocolate
    2 tablespoons butter

Put in a mixing bowl, and add:
    1/2 cup milk
    1/2 tsp vanilla

then stir in the dry ingredients.

Butter/grease an 8-inch square pan, spread the batter in the bottom.

    Then scatter over the top:
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 white sugar
    4 tablespoons cocoa

Don't stir it in, or anything, just pour

1 1/2 cups (cooled) coffee or water

over the tops. Yup it will look messy, don't worry about it.

Bake at 350° for about 40 minutes. Then remove from oven and let it cool at least a bit so you don't burn your mouth - it'll smell wonderful and you'll be tempted, but do let it cool a teeny bit at least!

    *****

I sometimes package this up as all the dry ingredients in one bag, the right amount of butter, the sprinkle ingredients in another ziplock, and put it in a new square baking dish to leave for new moms with an instruction card as an easy welcome home dessert. After all, one really can always use another 8-inch square pan, right?

Thanks Karen! When you say dark chocolate, do you mean the unsweetened?

  12. #12
Dark Chocolate=the unsweetened baker's chocolate. If you use Cocoa powder instead of the baker's chocolate, use 1Tbsp additional butter and 3 Tbsp of cocoa powder.

Not chocolate, but if anyone wants some fish chowdah, it's in the pot on the bar, complete with tryed out pork fat bits to use as seasoning. (use the pork fat to saute the onions and peppers in)
