    Exotic pets...

Do any of you have or had exotic pets. I had two guinea pigs a few years back, both lived to be five years old. They were the cutest little things and I was happy to keep them from going to a lab. Here is a pic of them:

The tan and white one was Pudgie and the black one was Jackie, they were both female. Even these little piggies have a personality all their own, Pudgie was the most affectionate while Jackie was very shy. They were adorable and I was very sad when they each died. Jackie died at the vets and Pudgie died in my arms about a year later. I miss them.

Oh, they're both beautiful and so sweet-looking. Thank you for loving them and sharing their stories and photo.

If bunnies count as exotic, of course we had Miss Hoppy, bunny extraordinaire and my avatar here. She was a house bunny (litter box trained, and hopped around freely) and lived to be 11. Before her, for "exotic" pets, we had a Siberian Dwarf hamster, Vadim, adopted when his mom couldn't give him the attention he needed, a baby snapping turtle, Panzer, a Painted Turtle Rudi, many tropical fish, and most exotic, we "pet sat" for two chameleons for a couple weeks once!

    7 Tarantulas
    3 Fire Belly Toads (frogs)
50 Shrimp (ghost, unknown, Cherry, Bee)
    8 Catfish
2 Albino Chinese Softshell Turtles (rare)
    1 Malayan Box Turtle (Endangered)

There is a native Brown Snake in the house, but I don't own it. Just waiting for the MNR (government) to pick it up. Doubt he'll (I work with him often) come here till the spring as he knows its in a safe place. The boyfriend isn't happy at all, he's scared of reptiles, esp snakes lol

I wouldn't have considered guinea pigs exotic myself, but I have had one as a pet. His name was Angus (Gus) and he was black, with long hair that I had to cut once a month! He was precious!

I have had a few pet rats, too . . . Lily, Luli and Gwynnie (hairless), and Kitty were the rats I've had in the past. I want to get my daughter a pair of rats when she's older (she's only two). I've also had hamsters (Tawny was my favorite childhood small pet), gerbils and mice.

And I had a beautiful Bengal cat named Lock, if that counts as exotic haha.

I didn't know they were referred to as exotics either until my vet said they were. I had to have an exotic pet vet to care for them.

Guinea pigs are small mammals, not all vets will tend them.

The term "exotic pets" varies with the context. State laws usually consider any wild animal, or untamed species as exotic. In that context, guinea pigs are not exotic.

Anyway, nope, all I've ever had are dogs, cats and fish.

As a child, I had many lizards, hamsters and hermit crabs.

I use to have a guinea pig (Sally, in my siggy) but she passed away about a month ago.

I had ferrets when they were still considered "exotic". I've had pet skunks, a pet raccoon, puffer fish, Florida softshell turtles and I have rehabbed a couple of bats. Other than that, right now I have dogs, cats, rabbits, a goldfish a 3 cory cats and some ghost shrimp. I am soon to have Green spotted puffers, Figure eight puffers and a snowflake eel. I also really really want to set up a crabitat for some hermit crabs.

    Lots of interesting pets!!

My dad had many pheasants a few years ago including silver, golden, red golden, reeves, and hybrid pheasants. We had peacocks. We had a salt water tank with neat fish when I was a kid and my brothers had iguanas.

    These may not be exotic, but they are different;
    Highlander cows
    Llammas
    Donkey
    Pygmy goats
    All diff kinds of bunnies
    Pot bellied pigs
    Miniature horses

I had mice as a kid and a frog.

I found a bunny wandering around and took him in.

Then I got Pua the tamandua anteater, and it's been all anteaters from there.

Have had some fish but I'm not to fond really. We do have a huge armored catfish, aka pleco of some sort, that we got as a baby. I lost track but she's maybe around 15+ years old.

Oh and got a couple guinea pigs for awhile. I took them because she was moving and threatened to set them loose. They had babies then I found them all homes.
