    A question

Some of you might know I recently lost my precious kitty, Kiba. I feel an emptiness in my heart without her. I seem to have it in my head the only way I'll feel better is to get a new kitten. Everyone tells me this is a terrible idea since it's too soon. I guess I agree it's too soon, but how do I stop thinking about it? I really don't think it will stop hurting. I know I want another kitten some day. I'd like to wait til Clover is a little older so she won't hurt the kitten...People tell me I should wait til Clover is 2 years old before getting a kitten (so like...1.5 years) so she'll be trained and so I will have more time for the kitten. It's been a long time since I've had a kitten...are they really that much work? Like compared to a pup. I have more then enough time on my hands right now to give love to both a pup and kitten. What do you think? How much time should I wait?

What about getting an adult cat? They are much, much less work than a kitten, and more likely to defend themselves if a pup gets fresh.

IMO, raising Clover with the kitten might be a good idea. I would try to get a kitten a bit older though so it wouldn't be too tiny. Of course there should be major supervision between the two of them for a long while.

Now would be a great time to get a kitten so it could grow up with Clover. Cats have claws and can go places dogs cannot. I think a kitten would be able to fend for itself. An adult cat may not be receptive to living with a dog unless it has had dog friends before.

You know though that one pet cannot replace another. You will never forget your other cat. They remain in our hearts forever. Hope this helps in your decision making process.

I've lost 5 cats, over 17 years. Sometimes, I couldn't even THINK about adding a cat for 18 months. Sometimes, a cat /kitten who needed ME tuned up 5 days later.

Grief is a strange thing. It is different every time. It depends on the relationship you had w/ the departed (pet or human) AND on the stage you are at in your life. No one can tell you when is the right time for you to get another feline, that is a personal decision.

People can remind you to consider: the newbie will be an individual, who wants to be loved for itself. It will not be a replacement, but a new being who enters you life. The personality will be unique, and maybe be completely different. You need to be adding a newbie because it is right for you AND THAT living thing.

As for Clover, in general it is best to add a feline wile she is young. Lik umans, pets are most adaptable when young.

And of course, nothing says you must get a kitten. Shelters are full of young and mature adult cats just wanting a furever home!
