Snowballs

We had a unusual occurence here today...it snowed. I live SC, where snow is very unusual, especially in November.
My dogs loved it! We threw snowballs for them to retrieve. They ran through the snow and tried to catch the flakes as they were falling. It was one of those "wet" snows where the flakes were huge. Those girls had the best time and we had a wonderful time watching them!

When my toy poodles were alive it was funny to see them in the deep snow. Sometimes I would have to go and lift them out of it. They looked and acted like they were stuck in cement! The first path we always cleared after a snow was to the backyard so they could go potty.

We got early snow here and took the dogs up to play last weekend. They only know 2 seasons: swimming at the lake and playing in the snow. They never seem to tire of catching snowballs and go at it so long, they do nothing but pee the rest of the day from eating too much snow.

My husky/shep (x) Cody dreads the heat of summer, usually looking for a cool spot beneath a tree, or, digging a hole in my garden and laying in the cool dirt. (AHHH!) But when it snows, she's in Husky Heaven! She finds the biggest snow pile she can find and just snuggles in. She'll stay there for hours on a sunny day if I let her. With her husky markings she really is a beautiful sight, her ice blue eyes peering out from the briiliant white snow. Guess all that undercoat and fur, waiting to be shed in spring, really keeps her warm and cozy. Star is the snowplow. 60 lbs. of compact lab power stomping down a path for the rest of us. Every seasons brings its own special kind of fun and antics. We JUST closed our pool (kept open just for her highness Star to swim in as long as possible) and now its endless hours of using the pool cover as a trampoline. Cody just gawks at her; she thinks she's nuts!

My Daisy loves the snow too but if it gets too deep, she sinks in and can't get out!! (She's a Basset so she is very short!) I have to pluck her out sometimes, but she doesn't mind, she loves the snow. Once, my sisters and cousins and I built this family of snowmen in my yard and used food for the faces. The next day, we saw all our snowmen had been knocked to the ground, and we never found the food from their faces

My Basset Hound Gruffie loves snow sooooo much! Last year he had so much fun pulling my 3 year old neibor girl around on her sled! It was so cute! i even took pictures but they didn't turn out very well.=(

Here in Texas, snow doesn't exist, of course, but occasionally we'll get a frost. Katie always wants to be left outside to lay in the grass; we figure the cold feels good on her fat Corgi belly.

My favorite time is the first time a puppy sees snow. They react in so many funny ways and can't at first decide how to respond to the change in their yard. Most of the time, though, they go out and roll and root around and enjoy the heck out of it.

We spent Thanksgiving camping in the mountains. There was some snow left around all the campsites. It was Rocky's first snow experience.
He would use his snout as a shovel and eat it. I even caught him taking a snooze on
the snow instead of his mat.

My neighbor has two Golden Retrivers (if you want you can edit this and help my spelling) and i watch them! He works a lot and is isn't married so I help him by letting out his dogs once a day when I get home from school!!! He pays me so I get payed to play with dogs could life be any better? I love them they are like my dogs!!! They're names are Abby and Alex!! Anyway they love the snow they play in it and roll in it (I know that's kindof strange) and they LOVE snowball fights!!!!! I haven't been able to play with them in a little while because of my ancle but i am going to go over there as soon as I get off these cruches!!!!!!!

Okay, I have to weigh in on the snowballs topic. Our old St. Bernard, Freckles, was a family dog when I was growing up. She, being a Saint Bernard, LOVED snow, would plow it with her broad muzzle and end up with a little triangle mound of snow on it when she looked up. But the funniest thing was throwing snowballs for her. She would get very excited, you would throw the snowball, then she'd pounce on it! That, of course, thoroughly smushed the snowball flat into the snow on the ground, but she would then sniff around for several minutes, trying to figure out where the "ball" went!
