The AKC has expanded its number of registered breeds. On January 1, 2011, the Entlebucher Mountain Dog, the Norwegian Lundehund and the Xoloitzcuintli were added.

On June 30, AKC will add: Finnish Lapphund, Cessky Terrier, American English Coonhound (yes, that’s the name). That'll make a total of 185 breeds and varieties eligible for Westminster Kennel Club in 2012.

Fans: Expect a pop quiz on the new breeds later this year.
