    Schnauzers big and small!

I just watched "Breed All About It" on Animal Planet, and they featured schnauzers. I didn't realize that there were 3 sizes of these cuties! They come in miniature, standard, and giant!

The larger 2 sizes are used as working dogs, including police and customs work. Some have even been trained to sniff out cancer cells in humans...what a miracle that could be!

And of course the miniatures are great companion dogs for the right family!

Here's to you, Miss Daisy, Perry, and our other schnauzer friends!

    Thanks Pam
They forgot to say they sniff out food, snacks, dirty socks, chewed up slippers,
(in my husband's case) his coumadin bracelet under the chair, anything on the kitchen floor, supposedly small vermin which to me is their stuffed rabbit and bird.
The black Giant Schnauzer is gorgous and we fell in love with a Standard Schnauzer at a dog show in Del Mar, CA, he was beautiful and so friendly.
Carrie is working with us on Perry and Daisy, they are not the friendliest dogs in the world and so independent, but we love them so much we do let them get away with most anything, but we are working on it Carrie!

Keep telling yourself that the best thing about Schnauzer's, whatever the size, is their independent streak.
This is not your average dog, you need to work hard to gain the respect you need and you need to do it in dog language (rolling it on it's back and shouting is only going to earn you more problems!) Once you have a connection with one of these you are either hooked or you will swear never to look at one again!
They have retained a great deal of the work ethic and I like them a great deal for that and their independace. You are never bored and you can never forget that they are around.
Once you have their respect, not the easiest thing in the world, they are a dog that will pull it's own heart out for you.
Too many people give up too easily on them and they deserve people like Jackie and Don who are always willing to try something new and keep their happy, active and under control (the active bit isn't so hard - the happy and under control....well...).

There is a Giant black schnauzer named Evita that comes in to board were I work and she is aggressive(she will bite) but for some odd reason she likes me. and after meeting her I like the look of the Giant schnauzer it sort of remindes me of a Doberman with long hair and a different color.

Carrie, I'm hooked and Don says Daisy and I butt heads because we have the same personality, both independent and stubborn.
I have made some gains with her, I used to beg her to come to me, now I use a stern voice and tap the floor where I want her to come and she does about 80% now.
Perry is doing fairly well, when Daisy jumps up in the window and barks I just pull her out and he doesn't bother.
Don was letting Perry jump up on him whenever he wanted to and we are now teaching him to play with Daisy or lie down and only jump on him when Don Allows him to.
Boy, it sure does take patience, but we are in it for the long haul. Jackie

I have finally decided that I have a very strange Miniature Schnauzer. He is not independent at all. He's a total cuddle monster and gets along with all people and other dogs. He's actually the biggest baby in the world

Ownerofthreedogs, I really haven't come in contact with the Giant, just saw them in the dog show, they are really graceful and beautiful and they don't shed. It seems to me that Schnauzers do pick favorite people, like the one that likes you where you work.
We have three Grandsons, our Schnauzers bark and scare two of them and the other one they love and give him kisses all day. Carrie is right, they are a dog to reckon with, and you either love them or leave them.

She's just beautiful. Of course I may be biased, but I would defy anyone not to fall in love with that face.

Here's a couple of Oggy & Flute when they were pups. Oggy & Flute are standards.
