    pulling to visit another dog

When we walk Chesney he does really well at walking by our side. . . . until he sees another dog up ahead!!! He is very social and loves to visit and he will pull and pull until we catch up to that other dog. We've tried saying "no," stopping, sitting to calm down, but when we start up again he continues to pull. We've changed our route to not be following, but I don't always want to do that. He needs to learn not to pull when we see other dogs. I would really appreciate any ideas on how to stop the pulling!!!

When he pulls, stop, make him sit, and then proceed in the opposite direction. He's learn that pulling has the opposite effect than he wants. He's still a puppy at heart, so you'll have to be consistent. Have you done any obedience classes with him? Maybe time for a brush-up course!
