Tilly and Nutmeg's Mama
I was on a hike with my family and our two dogs, and the dogs were off leash on the trail to have a run (it was allowed in the park). They were running and barking and having all kinds of fun. All of a sudden we see two black bear cubs go tearing up a tree, and our dogs are at the bottom of it, barking away. We think the barking probably helped as it was really loud, but we got out of there REALLY fast once we saw the cubs had taken refuge in a tree. It was only a matter of time before Mama showed up and cleared a path for her babies!!!

I have read that running from a Bear does no good as Bears are faster than people nad are used to running over rough territory.
Most bears stay away from people if they can. Its only when their Cubs are in danger that the Momma Bear will get angered!!!
You are supposed to face the Bear and talk in a low voice and try not to show fear.
Easier I imagine said than done!!!

This is not always true. Bears are becoming a danger in many areas of Alaska and I can only guess in other states. Anchorage and surrounding areas have growing bear populations due to hunting restrictions in cities and municipalities. In the Bush, bears are getting closer to villages partially because of growing wolf populations.Originally Posted by catmandu
