    Editing displayed name of links

Can't remember when this changed for me, but I used to be able to edit the displayed name of a link. For example, instead of the displayed name of the link of http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=41856
I used to get a box that would allow me to change the displayed name to Kuhio (for example). Then, when you clicked on Kuhio, it would take you to the link.

Somewhere along the line, that prompt went away for me. How can I get it back? Or is there another way to do this now?

This is the way I do it....

Below the fonts info (size colour etc) there is another line, go across the line to find the blue globe thing... click on it.... type in the link and it will give you:
    [ URL="http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=41856"]http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=41856[ /URL]

Take the the bit not in quote marks, so on this link it would be the part highlighted in red
    [ URL="http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=41856"]http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=41856[ /URL]

And replace it with the text you want... so Kuhio with this link...
    [ URL="http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=41856"]Kuhio[ /URL]

Of course take the spaces out, I only added them in to show you how it's done.... so it will be like this:
    Kuhio

There may be a quicker way to do it, but I hope that helps for now

You may need to switch the editor mode. You can manually do that on each post. For instance you can keep the editor mode set as you have it now, or at the top right of the post box, there is an a/A. If you click on that, it will give you the other editor. One of them allows you to change the display of the links and the other one doesn't. You can also permanently change the editor mode you use by going to your account preferences. I'm sorry that I don't know the correct name for any of the buttons. I am on someone else's computer and have to leave in 5 minutes. If you haven't responded to this by the time I get back to my computer, I'll try to be more specific with instructions then.

Yes, when you hit the "link" button, it asks you to paste in the URL. If you do that, and then hit okay, the link appears in the tags, and the text between the tags (what appears as the name of the link) is highlighted, so if you start typing, it will disappear, and whatever you type in will be there instead.

That will only work if you are using the standard editor not if you have the enhanced editor.
To change the default editor, you go to User CP, edit options and all the way down to message editor interface or something like that. You can have plain text box, or the standard editor or the most advanced. The standard one is the one that lets you follow the directions that the others posted about.
