    Lets hear about your vacation...

I can't go on my vacation with my broken foot but I know a few of you are going on vacation.

Lets hear about your plans, where are you going? Lets hear from those that already went to.

My husband and I belong to an organization called the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism. They hold their biggest East coast gathering the last week of July/first week of August about 2 hours from us, Pennsic War (this year is Pennsic War 38). 2 weeks of camping, medieval re-enacting type stuff. We will be heading up July 29 and coming back home August 4/5...haven't quite decided yet...I can not wait!

I hope you start to feeling better soon!

I've been trying to find out where they're located in my area for years. I finally got an email address but no one ever responded. I'll bet it's a lot of fun, isn't it?

Vacation...vacation...I vaguely remember the concept. Is that where you go away and do things and have fun and stuff? I haven't had one in 4 years and if I don't stop this obsession w/renovating my house, I'll probably never be able to afford one. I'm planning on a trip to England next year but I honestly don't know if it's in the budget. I do like to hear of others' excursions, so please do share, everyone.
    Blessings,
    Mary

My boyfriend and I are going up to the Lake Erie Islands for three days, Monday, Kelly's Island, then Put-in-Bay later on that day, Tuesday, all day at Put-in-Bay, then go back to Sandusky, stay overnight at a hotel, and Wednesday, all day at Cedar Point. We both are excited about it, we need a break and major alone time, haha. Considering the fact we live at our parents' houses.. which can be hard sometimes. I'm more excited because I have never been to these islands - but I've been to Marblehead/Lakeside... and I got him to take some time off work to RELAX! Yay.

We had an early holiday this year. We were away in June and we were learning to sail. We were in Greece for two weeks, around the bottom of the Peloponese. We stayed in a hotel for the first week while we did our four days yacht training. My husband has done some dinghy sailing before, but I hadn't done any type of sailing. The second week we spent living on the boat and sailing in a flotilla, visiting a different place every day. I did enjoy it, but because it was all new to me, it felt more like hard work than a holiday.

We leave on the 30th for a motorcycle road trip. We will head up the coast to Oregon. Cut over and go stay with my sister in Albany, OR for one night. Then head up to Seattle, WA to stay with Bruce's brother for two nights. After that we head up to Victoria, BC and we stay there for three nights. The entire trip will be 11 days. We come home on Sunday the 10th of August. That's a LONG time on a motorcycle. But I think it will be fun. We will only be on the bike for 4 to 7 hours a day with plenty of stops.

Bruce has it all planned out. Where we are staying and what time we leave and all that. I'm just along for the ride, apparently. The challenge for me will be packing light for that long of a trip.

I will (hopefully) take lots of pix and I'll make a thread when we get home.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

LOL, yup. I was on the phone with Slick the other night and she was asking me when I'd be in Victoria and I had no clue. Last night he booked us on the ferry to get to Victoria because she gave me a heads up.
But I'm not even sure what towns we are staying in. The only ones I know are Eureka, Albany, Seattle and Victoria. Oh and I think Lincoln City on the way home. But there's more places in there somewhere.

Either way, I'm sure we will both have fun on our trips.

I'm leaving Aug 1st for Hickory, NC to visit my brother. We'll do some sightseeing, and a lot of jawjacking, and I'll get in some relaxation too. I'll let Amtrak take care of getting me there and back, since I don't fly, and I don't feel comfortable driving that distance on unfamiliar roads by myself. I'll be coming back home Aug 12th or 14th in time for the grandkids birthdays which we'll celebrate that weekend. Tia will be 17 on the 11th, and Christian will be 13 on the 15th.

LOL that's great! Mike said that we can take the slower ferry up to Kelly's Island so I'd have some photography opportunities. I really, really hope those days will be of good weather! Mike isn't really huge on 'vacations' and it did take me a while to convince him he needs some time off and relax and life can't be always about work, work, and work.

That's going to be the difficult part. I'm only taking three pairs of jeans (including one pair that I will be wearing, so I only have to pack two pairs). I'll take maybe 3 T-shirts and 1 long sleeved shirt. We will be doing laundry at least every third day.
He bought these packs that go in the side packs on the bike so we can fill them up and just stick them in. It will be nice when we get to places because you just pull the whole pack out and go. And as far as all my hair products.... I won't be taking much. But my hair will be in a ponytail or hat all the time anyway. I'll have helmet hair constantly. It's going to be tough, but I will manage.
I've attached a couple of pics of what our bike looks like.
The bike looks very similar to ours. And the other picture is a pic of just the tour pak on the back that is also my back rest. Bruce also got a custom seat (extra large for me!!). And then we have nets that we can strap things to the packs, like our leathers when we aren't wearing them. Bruce will figure it out. The only thing that bums me out is I can't pick up too many souvenirs.

Bruce is the opposite. He looks forward to a vacation each year. Even if it's just going to our condo in Tahoe (which is what we've done the past two years).
