    Should Walmart sell wine?

Walmart announced that, sometime in 2008, it will begin offering
customers a new discount item ----

Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is
teaming up with Ernest & Julio Gallo Winery of California to produce
the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2 - $5 range.

Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to put a bottle of Walmart brand
into their shopping carts, but "there is a market for inexpensive
wine," said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at the University of
Arkansas . "But the right name is important."

Customer surveys were conducted to determine the most attractive name
for the Walmart wine brand. The top surveyed names in order of
    popularity were:

    10. Chateau Traileur Parc

    9. White Trashfindel

    8. Big Red Gulp

    7. World Championship Riesling

    6. NASCARbernet

    5. Chef Boyardeaux

    4. Peanut Noir

    3. I Can't Believe it's not Vinegar

    2. Grape Expectations

    1. Nasti Spumante

The beauty of Walmart wine is that it can be served with either white
meat (Possum) or red meat (Squirrel).

P.S. Don't bother writing back that this i s a hoax. I know possum is
    not a white meat!

Sounds like they really want to compete with Trader Joe's famous 2-buck Chuck ...

I'm not a wine drinker, so have no opinion on the matter, frankly. People who want cheap booze will find the cheapest stuff they can, anyway.

Oh wow - thanks Karen! I doubt that we will be seeing that here though. I am always surprised to see alcohol in grocery stores and gas stations in the south. Here in good 'ol PA, you have to go to a distributer or state store!

Oh come on Karen T.Joe has some excellent wine and they don't have any possum, they do have really yummy garlic fries, wonderful breads, great candycane oreo type cookies, a lovely array of soups, teas, coffee, cheese, ice cream, cheese cake but no squirral. Try IGA for that.

I'd re-label it Chateau Parc du Traileur, just to be snobby Peanut Noir made me laugh right out loud!

I looked at this thread because the Wal-Mart nearest to me just started selling beer a couple of months ago. They don't offer wine, though. I think the corporation is trying to convert this one to a "Super" where they carry a full line of groceries. The food items they do sell (snack foods, boxed, canned and frozen) are usually cheaper than the supermarket, bottled water usually is and a gallon of milk always is.

We can't buy any alcohol ecept in licensed stores. When I lived in Oregon for a short time, it always seemed weird that you could get it in the grocery store.

I am a strong supporter of BC wines, and my FAVOURITE winery of all time is See Ya' Later Ranch http://www.sylranch.com

I love what it stands for. When I went there in the summer I bought 3 whites and they were all fantastic. Their 2007 Reisling is the best I've had, and I normally prefer dry whites.

Burrowing Owl is the best for Merlot. http://www.bovwine.ca They are trying to preserve land for the burrowing owls in the area, which I also greatly admire.
