    Who said it and when?

    New game time.

Famous quotes from history. Post a famous historical quote, and the first person who knows who said it and when gets to post the next quote.

    Rules.

#1. No Google searches, if you dont know dont reply. This is going to be on the honor system. If more then 3 wrong answers are posted, Googling is allowed.

#2. Only historical quotes from historical figures.

#3. No new quotes until the previous one has been at least named if not dated.

To try to start this off.

All great movements are popular movements. They are the volcanic eruptions of human passions and emotions, stirred into activity by torch of the spoken word cast into the midst of the people.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien

Cool! To quote Simon and Garfunkel, "My years of education haven't hurt me none ..."

Here is one of my favorite quotes:

"How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."

Okay, I'll post one of my favorites, should be an easy one to guess:

Do not act as if the world owes you a living. It does not, it was here first.

    John F. Kennedy?

This isn't exactly a historical quote from a historical figure, but I really like it so I'll put it here. I am blessed enough to have a couple of these.
