    MIL's kitty pees on her!

What an ordeal this has been! Yikes! We got MIL a kitty from the Humane Assn. back in January. She was in love from day 1. Then, about 5 weeks ago, Misty slipped out and MIL couldn't catch her. Misty was gone for a whole WEEK before we caught her in a live trap. Everything seemed fine and then one night, Misty pooped and peed on MIL'S bed. This was about a week after she'd been home. So, I took her straight to the vet to have her tested and thoroughly examed for any ailments, diseases, infctions, etc. that she might have. She checked out with picture perfect health. Then about a week ago, Misty pooped and peed ON MIL in her bed while she was sleeping. She did it again last night. Anyone know what we can possibly try? I called the vet to ask her what she recommends and they said she'd call me back in about 10 minutes and that was 3 hours ago....still haven't heard back! Any ideas, suggestions?

I'm not sure if I mentioned this to you or not because I've told so many people about it. I have my 4 pee cats on Clomicalm, a medication that's usually prescribed for behavior problems in dogs but it's being used successfully on cats. It started working for me immediately w/no side effects whatsoever. I have them checked once a year just to be sure everything is A-OK. My RB Peeka peed on my hair one night while I was asleep. I actually heard it before I felt it run down my neck. Talk about urge to kill! She immediately scurried out of the bedroom and I had to totally strip the bed and take a shower at 2 AM. I was NOT happy. I didn't know about Clomicalm then or I would've certainly started her on it. That turned the tide for me as far as allowing my cats to sleep w/me. No more. Puddy does but that's because she's in CRF and has so many other health problems. But if she would ever do that to me, she'd be banished to her own room. Tell your MIL to talk to her vet about Clomicalm. Others have tried kitty Prozac and Feliway. I've not had success w/Feliway but others have so you may want to try that first but if you don't see results, Clomicalm has been a godsend to this household.
    Blessings,
    Mary

I'm sorry to hear this. She must be unhappy or stressed about something. Has anything changed? Maybe she's upset because she can't go outside any more. She could be unhappy with her litter box or the litter that's being used. Most cats prefer uncovered litter boxes and unscented litter.

I've been using feliway plugins, added more litter boxes, and now I use unscented litter after using cat attract litter for a while. Your mom also needs to be sure to wash her bedding very well. I'd add some enzyme cleaner to the wash to make sure that all of urine odor comes out. I hope that she'll be able to find a solution for this problem. Good luck.

Not sure what all is going on in your MIL's house or with her kitty, but this site.... http://www.catinfo.org/litterbox.htm has a TON of information on litterbox habits and things you can do at home to help. You already took the first step by having the cat vet checked, but since everything checked out ok then that site is your next step before it gets to be a habit.

    Good luck.

I have had Tubster Panther spray on me, as I think that hes trying to make her his Purrson, instead of all the other Found Cats.
At least I hope that is waht it was.
Thats so sad when our Cats dont use the box and we pray that you can find a way to show your friend what the boxes full of sand are for.

I just peed to say I LOVE YOU.

Catlady, That link was very helpful and I am going to try to make some adjustments to Misty's litterbox and also add another box to the 2nd bathroom and see if that helps.

I'd LIKE to know what her vet would recommend but she never did call back at all. I think it's time to switch vets! This clinic has been awful about saying they'd have the vet call me back and then no one ever does. But if I bring in a cat for a check up for a relatively minor problem, they sure aren't bashful about wanting to run $300-400 in tests! I've also been charged more for procedures than what the told me the cost would be BEFORE the procedure was done (like spaying and nail trimming, etc.). I digress.

So, anywho, I am also going to try to Feliway and see if that makes any difference and get all of MIL's bed and bedding washing with cat urine removal that I bought at the vets office when Ozzie had his infection in his peeper.

    Thanks for the suggestions folks!
