A perfect evening on the lake...pics

What the lake near my house looks like February at 10:30am with the sun just starting to rise.

What it looked like last night at 10:30pm with the sun just starting to set.
We've had a lousy summer, one of the coldest since they started keeping official records here! I took last night off to enjoy the first decent evening since May!

Technically this is a dead lake as it doesn't support fish. It's actually teeming with life.

No less than three beaver families live on the lake.(taken with the digital zoom so it's not great quality)

The biggest of the beavers was less than impressed with my presence. One of the smaller ones swam beside my boat for awhile though.

There are dozens of ducks, gulls and a mated pair of loons who call the lake home. This momma had a big brood of half grown ducklings following her around. The young ones were having a great time splashing each other...even wild critters need to play!

This family looked a little younger so their momma was keeping them under tighter control!

Now if we can just get a few more nice summer evenings! Frost in July was a bit much, even for here!

The lake looks so serene. It must be wonderful to be out there listening to all the natural sounds around you - really precious

In my rush to see ALL the Glacier *snappies* - I didn't read ALL the caption ...

Thought OMG! SNOW in July? She just put the sled away.
Does she carry an Ice Axe in the kayak?

Ohhhhhhhh ... February it was ...

Tamara ~ Anchorage is having the same summer you're having. It's the coldest on record. Where is this global warming everyone keep talking about?

It's amazing to see the lake from the same vantage point in different seasons. Beautiful. I've always wanted to visit Alaska. I think I'd prefer the summer Alaska to the winter one though!

I knew I was going to love your photos, from the title of the thread. Thank you for sharing! I love the comparison photos of the lake at different times of year. Very cool.

We had snow in June, but not in July. Several days of frost, but no snow.

No, they are snow dogs, not water dogs!

Beautiful pictures! I love lakes, and this one looks so peaceful, like the perfect place to relax. Do you live there?

And the quality of some of the photos is brilliant, especially the second one looks very professional. Which camera did you use?

The lake is about a 15 minute walk from my house. It's off the maintained road system, but you can drive to it too, with a truck. The trail would not be kind to a lower vehicle's undercarriage!

Those were all taken with my little Olympus Stylus 710. I need a Pelican case before I'll risk taking the Nikon DSLRs in the kayak.

Lovely photos. With the cold summer, did you at least have fewer skeeters than normal?

Beautiful photos! I love the wildlife pictures especially.

Now...do you think you could send some lovely cold weather this way? I'll trade you- today was the 19th straight day of temps over 90 degrees and tomorrow and this weekend are only going to be worse! We could also use some moisture, so at this point I think everyone here would be willing to take all of your snow!!
