Dazzi Goes to the White Coats

Yesterday Dazzi went to the white coats for to have her teeth cleaned and have a lump on her foot removed and two of those wart like lumps removed from her body. I ran into my neighbor at the store the other day and she was telling me their 8 year old Bailey and gone in and had to have 7 teeth removed and now had to have a dental food and her teeth cleaned every 6 month from now on. That started me worrying because the older vet who sometimes filled in for our regular vet said she needed to have her teeth cleaned last fall but it got pushed to the back burner with Snoopy's troubles. So I took her in on Thursday so they could look at her teeth and the lump on her foot. Thank God I did. He said she had a tooth fractured and the root was exposed which makes it painful. She also had two abcesses on the big teeth towards the back which would also need pulled. So going in we knew that 3 teeth had to be pulled. He said there are two on either side behind those big ones that you can't see until they are under. Fortunately he had a cancellation on Friday and since I am off Fridays it was great to be able to get her in so quickly.

Again thank God nothing was wrong with those back teeth. It still cost a pretty penny to get all the work done. My vet is doing some remodeling of his house - I think I am paying for it (Christy too as she has had all 3 of hers teeth cleaned and Dakota had a couple of lumps removed.) None of the lumps looked cancerous or were cancerous.

I am partially sharing this because I never really gave much thought to her teeth being that bad - at the time the other vet said something she just had a litle gingevitis. Her next vet vist wouldn't be till next fall so who knows how much worst it would have been by then.

    Gad-ZOOKS!

You and the FurKids are spending WAAAAY too much time at the White Coats Office!

So ... did Dazzi get it all done & finished, or did she just get a looky-see?
Let's hope all the fussin is over and done with - and she can return to being a Happie Boss Dawg!

And how did Christy's Herd make out - is ebberbuddie Smilin with bright Pearly Whites, now?

In a day or 2 (or 3), Dazzi will be SO glad you had the work done. Ouch, with the exposed root!

Good job, for keeping on top of things; God sent that neighbor to give you a message, and you were open to receive and act upon it!

Dogs are so stoic, it's amazing how, if they have something painful going on, sometimes they just don't show it. Hopefully Dazzi is feeling much better with her teeth taken care of.

Phred, yes, Dazzi has had the work done. Luckily for me, he had a cancellation on Friday so we were able to get her right in which since I am off Fridays worked doubly great for me.

Christy's dogs faired much better. None of hers had to have any teeth pulled. And yes they are a lot whiter!

That is what I was going to say! They put up with so much pain and can't tell us.

My Ripley builds up tartar very quickly. He had his teeth cleaned 18 months ago and I recently took him in to have the vet look at two small bumps on his tail. The vet was more concerned with his teeth. He told me his gums were in bad shape and he definitely needing another cleaning and possibly some extractions.

I brought him in last Friday to have his teeth cleaned and his lumps removed. He lost 6 teeth. The vet told me that he will feel so much better now and I can tell you that his breath has improved 100%. I blame myself for not cleaning his teeth as often as I should. He said he would rather see me spend a couple of minutes each day wiping down his teeth with some gauze or tissues rather than weekly brushing them. I hope that I will do better in the future. I feel like a very bad dog mommy. Ripley on the other hand seems to not notice or care.

Pam, I know just the way you feel - I would have never dreamed that Dazzi's teeth were as bad as they were - good tip on what to do with their teeth though - I think it would be much easier (of course, I haven't tried it on any of the dogs yet) to wipe them down every (or almost every) day then to brush them.

I'm glad that Dazzi came through all that ok. I must admit this is a good
wakeup call for me. Maggie's reminder post card came in the mail about
3 wks ago & I've been putting off getting her teeth looked at.

    Glad Dazzi is okay!

I know I need to get both of mine in for cleanings.
Buddy needs it more than Sierra.

I'm waiting for my tax money, then I'll get them both done.
The vet said it would be around $140 for each.
