    Not according to wikipedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Pit_Bull_Terrier

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_bull

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staffordshire_Bull_Terrier

In fact, now that I've looked at photos, there is a significant physical difference. Or maybe it is just those photos. I've never really done research on the differences before so I'm not the all-knowing guru, but I know there will certainly be some here that will be able to tell you more specifics!

EDIT: Ah, it seems as though "Pitt Bull" is just a general term coined to include several of the bully breeds, but it isn't technically a breed itself, if that makes sense? I'm learning, too!

Depends on who you talk to LOL.

It's a fiery debate. Some fans say that Staffies and Pitties were the same breed up until one branch started breeding exclusively for show while the other branch bred, well, not for show. Others say that they're one and the same.

If I remember correctly, AKC registered AmStaffs can be dual registered in the UKC as American Pit Bull Terriers, whereas UKC registered Pitties cannot be registered as Am Staffs in the AKC.

You also have to make a distinction between Am Staffies and regular ol' English Staffies.

    Here's BADRAP's take on it:
(Scroll down to "AmStaff or APBT"?)

"Pitbull" is a generally term used for all bully breeds.
However, there is a breed called American Pit Bull Terrier which are not the same as a Staffordshire.

Pit bull is a generic term used to describe most bully breeds.. but typically American Pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and, Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Is there a difference? Yes. But all three breeds share their ancestors.

    American Pit bull terrier

    Staffordshire Bull terrier

    American Staffordshire terrier

Danegirl i was going to say the same thing .

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are smaller than the Am Staffs, and 'Pitties'.

    I haven't seen her book.

    *edit to add*

Wow, she has a lot of different books on her site. I want a lot of them. I bet they would be so intresting to read. Take a look at all she has.

Suki, is the book your talking about The Dog Who Spoke with Gods? It's only $25.00 if you order it from her. I think I'm going to have to order that book.

I keep coming back to edit this. If you click that book on her site, it takes you to Amazon you can buy it in paper back for $11.00.

Omg, she has another one, The Working Pit Bull, maybe that's the one your talking about? Its $26.37 on amazon.
