Poor Peggy hurt her paw!!! (new update #25 + new pics)

Poor little Peggy has a swollen paw, so she went to the vet today. I brought her to the vet's office because my mother and Reinhold were busy with their restaurant today.

There's an abcess in one of Peggy's pads, and the infection goes up to the claw. It looks like a bite or an injury from a thorn. The vet said there's a high risk that the bone might get infected, so she has to take antibiotics for at least 8 days. In a week, she needs to go back for another check up.

Poor little girl! She has problems walking, and she whines when you touch her paw. Needless to say, she'll be an indoor girl the next days (something I'm really happy about, to be honest).

Here are some pictures I took after her vet visit. She's resting in her new favourite spot on the attic, and you can see how swollen her paw is looking (her right front paw).

Poor Peggy. It sure looks sore and I hope she'll heal up quickly. Too bad she can't become an indoor cat all of the time.

I just spoke to my mom on the phone, and she said that today, her paw looks even more swollen, and she's walking on three legs. Could be that it just takes some time for the meds to kick in, but to be on the safer side, she'll go back to the white coats. Yesterday, her vet mentioned the risk of her bone getting infected, as it's very close to the affected area. I hope this did not happen by now!!!

I'm on my way now and will keep you updated!

    Thanks!

Well, the abscess opened today and a lot of pus and blood came out. And she's whining and even hissing when you touch her paw. She's also licking her paw a lot.

But the vet said it's good that that the wound is now open; btw, he thinks it's a marten bite. Poor little Peggy!! And when things go very bad, it could be that the affected digit has to be amputated.

Here are some photos I took after the vet visit, they are very graphic, so please scroll down if you want to take a look:

Doesn't it look just awful? Poor Peggy is so miserable!! She's not eating much and looks depressed, but she wanted some cuddle time after the vet visit, and she even purred when she got some bellyrubs.

It looks so painful but I'm sure she is feeling some relief now that the wound is draining. I hope that she will heal up wonderfully and will not require any surgery. But if she does, I'm sure she'll do just fine and adjust to whatever changes take place. My cat 'Tiny' had to have all but one toe amputated on her left front foot and she is the spunkiest little thing we've ever seen and doesn't let it get in her way at all. She races around and plays just like the rest of them. I do hope that Peggy gets better with each day and will not need any surgery whatsoever.

Poor sweet Peggy. That does look painful, but happy to hear that it broke. It must relieve the pressure and pain some. Have a full and speedy recovery sweetie.

Does Peggy use a litter box at all Kirsten, as I would also be concerned about the litter getting into the opening. I know they have special litter for things like this, like for when a cat is declawed. Maybe your Mom could ask the vet and look into it and I PRAY that she will keep her inside until she is completely healed, so she doesn't get dirt in it or hurt it even more so.

Please give her a kiss on that pretty little head of her's.

Here there is a litter called "Yesterday's News," made from old newspaper, which is better to use for cats that have open wounds on their paws. Is there anything like that in Germany? Maybe Peggy's vet will have some suggestions.
