Smoking Linked to Common Form of Cat Cancer

I don't smoke myself but thought I'd post this for those of you that do.

I just saw the story on the news. If there is one smoker in the house, it doubles the chance that a cat will get lymphoma. If there are 2 smokers, a cat is 4 times as likely to get the disease.

    This site describes the condition:

I heard that smoking is also very bad for birds and smoking around them can sometimes be deadly. People should be very cautious and careful about not smoking around their pets. Its bad for them and of course, its very bad for the smoker as well.

    WOW!!
That is interesting... I don't smoke but it is a good thing to know.
I wonder if the same is true for dogs...if they can get sick from people smoking... my Dad and Stepmom both smoke and they have a little pomeranian dog.

Wow, I did not know that. No one here smokes, but I know people who do and would love to hear this info. I will pass it on, thanks for sharing.

I knew smoking was bad for people and animals, but reading about those nasty symptoms makes me extra worried about my Knorretje.
We had been living with three smokers since she was a kitty, and they have only recently moved out. It's so nice that her fur doesn't smell of cigarettes anymore! We are both really happy with our three new non-smoking flatmates who feed and pet her when I'm not home!

Interesting. I never actually knew this, but it makes sense. I would imagine that smoke is bad for anything that breathes, and also plants because they need fresh air too.

I heard this on the news driving home yesterday! Poor animals, they are so helpless to this too.

I heard about this and always wondered if it affected pets. I'm glad I don't smoke. I would absolutely hate it if one of my furbabies got sick because of such a disgusting habit.

I don't smoke either and I don't allow anyone to smoke in my condo either. It makes sense that animals would also be affected by smoke since they are living things too. Thanks for making us more aware.
