Dawson we are almost neighbors! A hearty congratulations to a New Jersey boy!! Your handsome good looks got my immediate attention this morning and when I read your story it became clear to me that you are indeed a special boy on the inside as well as the outside. I visited your site and was captivated by the pictures and stories there as well. Dawson you are truly everything and more one could ever hope for in a companion. You have an important job to do and are doing it very well. We are delighted to send you our best wishes today on your latest achievement - Dog of the Day! I am in agreement totally with Daisy and Delilah's mom about having your mom join PT. We certainly would love to hear and see more of you!

I love all kinds of dogs, but I've always had a special place in my heart for collies. I had one for 10 years and she was the best!

Dawson sounds so wonderful. I'm so happy you have him--I think that is so neat and awesome that he can even unload a dishwasher!!! He sounds so smart and he is incredibly beautiful!!

Dear, devoted Dawson! Words just don't seem to do you justice; a canine of your magnitude deserves accolades of maybe the culinary kind to celebrate all the wonderful deeds you perform daily. And for icing on the cake, you are now being honoured as DOTD . . . I am delighted to have met you today and read all about you!

I grew up with a collie that was also sable like you, and she was a fantastic companion. Whenever I see one (which is rare) I have to stop, pull over and chat with the person, ask the dog's name, etc. Such fond memories get stirred.

From me and my Garden State kitties, we hope you and yours enjoy a long and happy life together.

Happy Sunday Dog of the Day to you, handsome Dawson! I am a rehabilitation nurse, so I know about the important work service dogs do. It's been my pleasure to read your story today. I agree with Pam, Daisy and Delilah about your human joining Pet Talk so we can see more of you! Congratulations and hugs to you, sweet DAwson!

Dawson you are so handsome and sound like a wonderful boy. I love collies and hope to have one someday. I was seriously thinking about rescuing one here recently but decided the timing wasn't right. Someday I will though.

    Congrats, Dawson!

  14. From Canine and Abled's Dawson

Wow, guys... Thanks so much for all your kind words. My Mom told me about being Dog of the Day yesterday and I was so excited! She read me your comments, and teared up (don't worry, I licked her tears away and they tasted like happy tears!) she said she was very proud of me and was very happy that others learned about my contributions...especially since I'm getting ready to retire.

Oh, but don't worry! I have lots to do in my "retirement"! There is much to do in order to stamp out access denial and other rude behavior that service dog teams face each and every day. Grrr! I get so mad when I even think about it! I wish I could talk like a human when store owners tell my Mom that she can't bring "that dog" into their store...even though she politely explains that I'm a service dog. I want to bite mean people (only just a little...you know, to get their attention and teach them some manners lke my doggie Mommy used to do with me when I was a pup), when they make fun of my Mom or give her a hard time because she "doen't look disabled." What is THAT? How is a person with disabilities supposed to look, anyway?? Can't they sense that she's in a lot of pain most days...or that her injured brain gets so overwhelmed and it's hard for her to concentrate and process, don't they know how scared she can get when she has a seizure and there's no one to help?...and don't they know that their insults and rude behavior hurts her feelings and makes her cry?? Maybe it's just cause I'm a dog and I don't have human smarts, but that doesn't make a bit of sense to me!

Anyway.... Obviously there's a lot of work to do demonstrating tasks so that we can teach people all about service dogs...after all, the more people know, the less service dog teams will face such bad behavior. I keep telling Mom that she should carry a rolled up newspaper with her...you know, to "discipline" bad behavior....but she didn't think that was such a good idea. Humans!

So Mom and I are getting ready to head out on a book tour ;-) Her first book is being re-released and her next book, a children's book that features all the Canine and Abled dogs is nearing completion. We're gonna be busy for sure and I'm very excited!

I hope you all follow our journey through updates on our web site. We've got lots of work to do; but we don't mind. We know that together we are making a difference; because together, we are Canine and ABLED! Thank you again for all your kind words. It makes Mom and I feel better about the long road ahead, knowing that we have support and understanding. I hope to see you on the road! Until then, reach for the stars!

  15. From Dawson's Mom

Hello, all. I just wanted to say how humbled and thankful we are at all the response we've gotten from Dawson being Dog of The Day. I wasn't even aware of it until someone who had visited our site left me an email to tell us how much he enjoyed our site, and how he had come about it!

As I'm sure most of your "fur kids" have been, Dawson is a shining light in my life; one that has brightened many dark places...places I'm grateful I didn't have to travel alone. To have people know all about his devotion and stellar service to me, and his community, is an honor that I am so happy to be able to share.

I've so enjoyed browsing through this wondeful site, and am very much looking forward to getting to know all of you and your beautiful dogs! I look forward to hearing from you.
