Woohooo, I fixed it and my camera still works!

For the past week or so I've been getting a big black dot in every picture I've taken. I knew cleaning the sensor was eventually going to have to be done with a dslr camera, but I wasn't looking forward to it. I've heard horror stories.
So this afternoon, I went to the only real camera shop in town. As the cashier was giving me the kit, the other staff member, who actually knows cameras and was busy with another customer, yelled across the whole store.."DO NOT LEAVE until you talk to me." This did not boost my confidence levels! I waited around for him and got very explicit instructions on how to do this without killing my camera. Do it wrong and if it can be fixed at all, it will take at least six weeks to get the camera back from Nikon! Yikes!

But I did it! The big black dot is gone and my camera works as well as it ever has!

See no dust! Just a nutty looking Pingo. New tennis balls have that effect on her! She's easy to please!

Unfortunately, the same can not be said for my trusty little Olympus c-5060. She's dead and not worth repairing. For three years, I've carried that camera almost everywhere; I'm going to miss it! I'm a little leary of taking the Nikon on my kayak and the dogsled! It's not exactly pocket sized! I was thinking of one of the new Olympus superzoom models, but after a little sales pitch from the same guy, I'm leaning towards the D-40! It is about the same size as my old Olympus, works with all the stuff that goes with the d-80, takes great pics and has no shutter lag(which never bothered me before but drives me nuts now!), i'd have a back up body if something does go horribly wrong with either one and it is only 100 bucks more than the new Olympus superzoom........Course I just paid my property taxes so I can't afford any new toys for awhile!

Beautiful picture and great expression on that pretty face. I understand your pain (sort of), I haven't been having much luck with my cameras recently either. I just ordered a back up camera. The more advanced they get the more delicate the parts become.
