GRRRRRR! MAD and NEED to vent!

Ok, so Meeko went to her new home a few weeks ago. The woman who adopted her is a lawyer who lives in NJ, and it took about 1 1/2 hrs to get there to deliver Meeko after long discussions and back and forth on emails.

She knew that Meeko was not a kitten. She picked her out on PetFinder. It clearly said adult, or young adult. The woman from our group who rescued her from the kill shelter said she thought the paperwork on Meeko was wrong because it had her age listed as 10yrs old. Her vet said MAYBE 5, but no more than that. Even me, who is not a great judge of age, looking at her, and her teeth, could tell she was no where near 10yrs old. The papers from the shelter, and who knows who filled them out, say 10yrs old. Those are the only papers we had.

So, the woman who adopted Meeko, who has been emailing me pics and raving how she's sweet and funny, and how she seems to prefer the name Lola, , emailed tonight and is all "I'm feeling very misled. I received Meeko's papers in the mail and it says she's 10. I wanted a young cat, I already have a senior." Her cat just turned 13, and he's an indoor outdoor cat who adopted her from what I understood. She said she wants vet records for her now. What vet records does she think we have?!

Well, here's the thing... we never gave any guarantee on her age. We told her that the papers said one thing, but from our vet's opinion, and us, she's a younger cat and the papers are not correct. All we were given was the intake paper from the shelter. I hate to break it to this lady, but most people who drop off their pet at a KILL SHELTER don't exactly have their pet's best interests at heart, and don't really think they'll be adopted, and therefore, don't take any of their health records with them. I mean, come on!!!!

We gave her the best answers we could. What we thought, what our vet thought. We can't help if the intake sheet, and who knows filled it out, or how correct it is, says one thing. Meeko could live another 15+ years with good food and health care. She's not a senior. She's an adult cat, but she's not old.

What happened to the person who picked Meeko out of PetFinder, has been so thrilled with her, took a bunch of pictures of her, renamed her Lola?? Why is she now all of a sudden "You misled me." What the heck is up with that???

I want to go over and beat her over the head. Then Black List her from all the organizations in the area. I'm just so annoyed. She didn't say "come pick her up" YET. I'm waiting for that one. Actually, she's going to have to come here, because I'm not driving another 3-4hrs round trip with gas prices the way they are for some b*tchy lawyer who is just being, well, B*TCHY!!

What is it with people these days?!

I haven't responded to her email yet either, because I want to see what my "superior" says to it, and frankly at this point, I just want to kick her butt and don't want to write out of anger and make it worse.

It's so awful, I know. I did cat adoption counseling for 1-1/2 years and, what can I say? People are so weird. Some are of them are downright IDIOTS.

But what are you supposed to do when dealing with Dr. Jekyl and Ms. Hyde?

It's so stressful to be the one responsible for turning over a cat to a new human and then find out it's not a perfect situation. It's so painful to know they are not adored and may be returned or are returned. Or, sadly, abandoned once again.

But without you, these cats would never be saved from the kill shelter or any where else.

You do the hardest volunteer work of all. Hang in there.

She's just doing what lawyers do. They think that a piece of paper guarantees them. Does your rescue have some wording about how the ages of the rescues are just approximations? That no one knows the complete history of the rescues? Maybe she just needs some education.

The same thing happened to us with Cammie. Her files at the no-kill shelter said she was 2 to 3 years old. Our vet checked out her teeth and eyes and and said 10-14. We had just lost a cat too, but what good would it to do make a stink out of it? We did bring it up with the shelter director and she said "Well, some cats lie about their age."

I think she's just making noise. I bet if your superior offers to come pick up Lola she'll see that she loves her too much to give her up.

Hasn't she taken the baby to her own vet and asked for what he thinks her age is? That is what I would have done as soon as I got a new kitty that I had no history on! If it is that big a issue with her how come she hasn't done the one thing that would answer that question once and for all?

At the risk of sounding weird, (ok, I am weird, I admit it) the planet Mercury is retrograde until July 9. This means that anything having to do w/communication and movement in any form is affected. People hear the wrong things, say the wrong things, cars and computers and cell phones go haywire, you get the picture. Try to hang in there as best you can and hold the thought that she's just being a lawyer. It's ok to vent but, as you said, you don't want to vent to her and regret it later. Sending out positive thoughts that all is well and that she'll take Meeko to her own vet (duh, lady! Use your atty. brain) and her vet will confirm Meeko's age as best s/he can.

Funny thing here is, she's the one who said our adoption agreement is so full of holes!! I wanted to have her look at it to see if we could make it more water-proof. Sigh...

The more I think about it, the sadder it is, cause she's an attorney for employees who are being discriminated against because of AGE!!!

The more I think about it, the more I want to call her and give her a piece of my mind. I am so not fond of attorneys. I don't trust anyone who can argue a guilty person out of things! (Johnnie Cochran better never apply for a cat after he got OJ acquitted.. granted that he wasn't found innocent, just saying they didn't have enough to prove him guilty).

I did tell her in an email today, after I calmed down and actually tried to get to sleep last night (of course I had to read this at 2am!). Said if she wants to return her, I'll be glad to set that up and she can bring her here to where we are. It's almost 4hrs round trip, and I don't mind doing it, but if she's being like this and wants to return her, she can use her own gas money, and listen to Meeko/Lola SING the entire way!

Her adoption agreement states that the cat must be seen by her vet within 30 days. I did point that out to her as well, and said , just take her in for a look see.

The other cat that came with Meeko was named Chips. Chip's intake sheet said she was 5yrs old. When checked with the vet, she's about 15. She's got major health issues too. So, who knows what these people were thinking when they gave them up. It certainly wasn't what was in the best interests of the cats!!

This woman raises and shows Westies, and she seemed so nice. I should have known not to trust a lawyer!!

On behalf of PTers with law degrees who are practicing or have practiced law, I'd like to point out that it's entirely possible to be both a lawyer and a decent human being.

I hope nobody seriously entertains the idea that lawyers, by virtue of being lawyers, are not worthy pet parents.

CID- Oh my gosh! I didn't mean it like that!! I just thought it ironic that this woman, who defends people for AGE DISCRIMINATION is now discriminating against the cat she adopted! It was just the irony of the entire situation.

We gave her all the info we had, and told her what our vet told us. She knew all of this going into the adoption. That's why I'm just not sure why she's questioning things now, and saying she was being misled, when we would not deceive her because the last thing we want is for a cat to be returned!!

Sorry if any lawyers/attorneys took it the wrong way, it's the woman, herself, that I have a problem with, and the fact that she does age discrimination cases. It's just hypocrisy.

I'm sure you'd be as concerned about what is going to happen to Meeko in this case as I am.... if she decides to return her, well... that just doesn't speak very highly of her as a person.

Oh, I definitely agree that the woman is being a real jerk. She's adopting a rescue kitty, not buying from a breeder. Poor widdle Meeko.

Maybe Meeko's new parent has got more than one personality inside that head of her's....

Either way, poor Meeko! What's wrong with that woman?!? Can't she see what a special cat she's got? Meeko may not be a young cat, but she still deserves lots and lots of love and a good home and a proud meowme (or daddy). ALL cats deserve that!

She hasn't responded to any emails yet. She usually does email later at night though.

It's just weird. I mean, I know she just got the papers from our shelter since all the adoption paperwork went through on our end. But all of this was explained to her. I told her how they got it wrong. I told her about how they said the other cat was really young, and how she's actually ancient, well, not ancient, but looks it and has major medical issues. It's like they got them backwards. That's what I think happened. A family took them in, they decided they didn't want them, and dumped them. Who cares if the paperwork is wrong, they didn't care, they just ditched the cats.

Ugh. I hope it doesn't come to her wanting to return her. I mean, I think Meeko (or Lola) will be really happy there. She's queen of her own castle now. That's what she wanted, lol.

Will have to wait and see what this wacko has to say. I just wonder if she sees the irony in the whole situation when she looks at her job, and then her gripe (which is unfounded).

It is so frustrating when someone acts like they are "shopping" when adopting a rescue animal. They act like they are going to Dollar Store to pick up something on sale.

We hope Meeko finds a forever home....but we aren't really excited about this one.

Do you think it should have been expected since she "shows" animals?? She just didn't seem like the "I want a perfect cat" person. I mean, her house made MY house look spotless (and I'm cluttered). I was amazed. I just thought she really sounded pleased with Meeko and she liked that she had spunk. She never said a word about not wanting and adult cat, and I know I specified that Meeko was an adult. If she wanted a kitten, she should have known by the PetFinder profile that she wasn't one.

I'm just stumped at this point. I don't want her returned, but I don't want this woman to be crappy to her because she isn't "young enough" for her.
