    Horse very ill... UPDATE****

I don't know if any of you know my sister but this used to be her account. She didn't want it anymore so she gave it to me. Anyway, I will get to the point. My cousin's friend has a horse who hasn't eaten in over 3 days. She might have to put her down but she certainly doesn't want to. She hasn't touched hay or even grain. Does anyone have any advice that might help? Thank you so much!!!

I really don't know. Maybe putting a few treats or something she loves in there to encourage her to eat? I'm not sure.

I really hope she gets better!

You never offer grain to a sick horse, never. You can leave free choice hay if horse id not colicking, and always have lots of fresh wate available.
If the horse has been sick for 3 days, why hasn't your friend called the vet??
Has anyone thought of checking the horse's temp., heart rate, pulse and gums for colour??
You don't give any of the symptoms that the horse is suffering from, only that it isn't eating, not enough to go on for someone to help.....my first choice would be to call in a vet, not get help on the forum.

She did take her to the vet but the person said she just wasn't hungry. she can't afford another vet bill. She didn't give her grain either! I just said she woudn't touch it! I'm just looking for suggestions. I'm only 13.

Poor horsey, I hope that the horse gets better soon. I can't really see what is wrong with it, all I can think of is that there is something making her/him not wanting to eat, maybe the horse is in pain somewhere, I don't know. I hope that vet can help

I will be praying for the horse to get better, I love horses so much and it is always such a sad thing when a horse had to be put to sleep, so lots of PT Prayers on the way

There was a horse at the barn I worked at before and he got something wrong with his hooves (I can't remember what theheck it was called) Anyways he barley ate and couldn't walk very well. Do they use shavings as bedding?

No they use straw. Was it called thrush? Anyway, she called a different vet. The other said she wasn't hungry. How stupid is that?

No, it was caused by some type of black shavings that is poisonus to humans and horses. Some of it got into our shavings and we had to evacuate the whole barn and give them all shots. That horse eventually died and I think a couple others did too. But since they don't use shavings it wouldn't be that.

ooh ooh I have another idea. It's gonna sound stupid, and they've probably already had it checkewd, but are the teeth okay? If the teeth are bothering him/her, they might not eat. or anything else in the mouth.
