I know I rarely post on the dog side, but I lurk here. I wanted to post a memorial for Midnight, my sweetie's dog.
A full-blooded black cocker spaniel, she was given away because her parents were going through a divorce. I don't know if neither one wanted her, or what the deal was, but she came to live in her forever home just before Christmas last year. She was just shy of a year of age, and she was so playful, loving, and gorgeous! Mike took her to the vet for a check-up, and she was diagnosed with hereditary mange. They scheduled a series of "mange dips" for her, and when I was there in April, she looked so much better than when I first met her in December! She was so playful and loving. But then her sores (full of puss and blood) came back. She had contiuous ear issues and then her paws started bleeding and the vet couldn't figure out why. She got meds for everything, but they just didn't help.
When Mike came home from work on Monday, there was blood everywhere, and she was in a lot of pain, whimpering, and actually crying when he would try to touch her. He took her to the vet Tuesday morning, and the vet told him that she was one of the 1% that the mange dips cannot help. So Mike made the very difficult decision to have her PTS.
He is so upset because he couldn't do anything more for her. But I keep telling him that she knew love in those 6 months. He says, "she never even got a chance to live". Poor guy. He had to have his 13 year old schnauzer, Bailey, pts a year ago because of cancer.
I have told him that Bailey greeted Midnight at the RB and that she is showing Midnight around, and they are playing, pain free and running through the fields.... and talking about the great Daddy they both had the pleasure to love.
RIP sweet Midnight. You will be missed little one. And you and Bailey keep an eye on your Daddy. He is so sad right now.
