Torn Pad on foot? *Updates*

My dog Dakota (see siggy,) tore the large black pad on the bottom of her foot. What should I do?????

well depends....

hw bad is it?

Is it split.... or are the top layers of skin just peeled off?

If it is split pretty bad and pretty deep you might have to get the vet to glue it (stitches don't normally stay when they are in the pad)

Teddy used to have terrible problems with his feet. I would usually clean it out really well..... and then use an antiseptic. then I would put a glob of neosporin on it and I would usually wrap it up in some gauze for a day or two to keep the neosporin on. try to keep her off his feet as much as you can.... or at least keep her from running around on it too much until it starts to heal.

Soak it in epsom salt to clean it out and you can put a little antiseptic on it to keep it clean and dirt free. Don't let her move around on it too much for a few days until it heals. If it is deep you may want to go to the vet to get some antibiotics to avoid infection. (Ginger tore her pad up running on a tennis court.)

Its not too deep, she just ripped the top layers off. Unfortunately, I cannot take a photo, because I've already wrapped it in gauze with antiseptic. I've got her sleeping on the couch now, so shes doin good.
