Jake WAS missing

WHEEW

See, I trust Jake outside in back yard. I leave door open and he comes in on his own.

Well, tonight the door got closed. I thought.. maybe he is just hiding REALLY well. I couldn't find him.

So I get into bed, and there's still no Jake. I turn the fan off to possibly hear him meow or scratch at door. I couldn't hear him. So I'm layin here, to scared to sleep. Thinking any min he's going to come to bed. NOpe.

So I go out into the living room and I hear a faint meow. I ran all over the place. Still no where to be found.

I go out FRONT, and he's at the neighbors chatting with the free cats under his car lol. He kind of hid from me till I stuck my hand for him to smell me, then he came out.

I'm wondering how the heck he managed to get out front. But he's safe and sound. No more " unsupervised " I usually check on him every few min while he's out there. Door got shut, so I thought he was back in.

If only he would keep his colar on. I need to get him chipped. I will get that done when I get him neutered.

Oh Jake, you did give you mom a scare! I am glad to hear you are back in the house now.

Cats can jump a 6 foot fence; mine climb the 7 foot chain link fence. One scales the shed to the 10 foot roof. I've seen him do it and I STILL can't figure out what he is holding on to to get up there! Getting down from there is a bit trickier. It is quite a jump, he doesn't like to do that. He wil meow for me o come and reach up to him and he "falls" into me.

I learned the hard way not to leave them out unattended, even with the fence. I lost one to the coyote on May 22, 2005. Now they are NEVER out unless we are out with them!

Cats are meant to be outdoors; it's their natural habitat. When I was growing up, the only way I was allowed to have a cat was if I let it run outdoors. And they all died early deaths, some of them not even living to be a year old. Too much can happen to a cat; cars, kids, airborn illnesses, etc. So unless you're willing to see your cats die young and possibly horrible deaths, keep them indoors.

I do keep him inside. But I let him roam outside in back for a lil bit. He loves it out there. And when I want to close the door I bring him back in. Usually my daugther is out there with him. That's the only time he goes out there. I don't let him out there when he wants.

and my other cat thats at my step dads, hes an outdoors cat and hes going on 14 yrs old.

There are exceptions to every rule and I'm not trying to come off like a know-it-all. It's just that, having rescued cats for so many years, I know what can happen and quickly. All it takes is one time for a cat to take off after another one and that's it. I know you love your cats and don't want any harm to come to them.
