There are 3 greyhound ex racers at our shelter

Well the shelter that we volunteer at has 3 male greyhounds that are close to 4 so the owners have dumped them.

This makes me so mad, I know a lot of people defend greyhound racing but this pretty much soured me seeing these boys in the cages behind bars.

One is a brindle, one is black and one is gray. They are absolutely gorgeous.
don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die....

Does your shelter contact greyhound rescue for them? Or just try to place them? Just curious.

The thing is you can't blame the entire sport for what one person does. That'd be like being against pet ownership because some do horrible things and dump their dogs. But I understand how sad it is . I don't think any responsible racing owners would dump their dogs at a shelter when there are so many organizations out there specifically to adopt out greyhounds. I hope they find the forever homes they deserve.

I am not sure exactly how the shelter got them, I think a whole bunch of them were acquired somehow and our shelter got 3. I think they went to a whole lot of places. Someone said something about them being brought up from Mexico but I don't have the details.

The shelter is wonderful, they will be treated well and found good homes, it just seems like dogs should be pets not something to race, sorry thats just how I feel.

The manager of our shelter is very involved with all the rescue groups, he is having the shelter "rescue" these 3, if he feels its necessary to contact rescue he has many contacts.

I sure hope somebody gives these poor dogs a loving home. They sure deserve it after all they've been through. All they need is a nice couch to lay on!! Good luck and I hope your shelter is able to help them.

Okay- good- just making sure. If they were adopted to by a rescue group, then dumped- they will uh speak to the one that dropped the dog off. Are these racers have a tattoo or a chip? The rescues here put chips in the rescues and it has their number as contact information. And of course- which dog is which..
