    Hiking with Frankie *Updated Weekly*

I decided that since Frankie and I go hiking at least once a week, I'll just use this thread to update with pictures and stories of our hikes.

The trail starts off on an old highway that was replaced when the city managed to build a bridge over the lake.

    Frankie the lizard hunter:

Playing down by one of the streams:

Someone was kind enough to build a small bridge over the stream crossing. Use to have to find rocks to leap frog on.

Frankie was helping me with some bird watching. We never did find the hawks that were the main reason for the hike.

    Some more by the stream:

This one is just before Frankie decided to show the prickly pear that she wasn't afraid of its spines:

The cactus however won once she tried to bite this:

    One more post to follow.

    Looking out at the lake:

    Closeup:

We couldn't leave without some cone pictures. This poor guy appears to have been flung off the freeway that we crossed under:

And then we found an entire family of cones:

Finally, we were very fortunate to catch a glimpse of some deer. I didn't even know there were still deer around the lake:

Hope you enjoyed! Sorry for posting so many pictures.

The beautiful weather today helped make wonderful pictures of Frankie.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thanks for posting these, I loved them all.....especially the cone ones. You mean you didn't take that poor abandoned and squished cone home with you? You can tell that Frankie enjoys her hikes, she looks so happy. She is a beautiful dog!

p.s. Frankie I'd stay away from prickly pears, they bite back!

I love that old hwy sign. Frankie sure is a doll. Looks like she had a lot of fun. That's a beautiful area to go hiking. I love this pic.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.

Craig, I just love Frankie. How long has it been now since she's been back with you? I bet she's loving every moment.

Kiki and I wanna come hiking with you and Frankie, it looks like a beautiful area.

I got Frankie back at the start of July, so about half a year. It's been so much fun having her back, and I think we're both doing better than we were. I don't know that I would call the area around me beautiful, but we're always up for hiking!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I'll pass them along to Frankie.

I've decided to use this thread and keep updating with our hiking pictures. Here are some from today:

In front of an old wind vane that we found:

    A closeup:

We crossed paths with this guy while he was hunting:

And a few minutes later he let us know that he was successful:

You can't see him anymore, but if the volumes turned up you can hear him; mostly at the beginning.

    Nice pics. Frankie is lovely!

We have tons of coyotes around here. I hear them yipping quite often at night.

We really did go hiking last week, but I forgot my camera. So here's a few more than normal this week to make up for it. Yesterday we hit 2 of 3 peaks at the local trails near us. Was just over 8 miles and we had a blast.

At the top of Stanley Peak:

Started down the trail passing an old water tower:

Then hiked over to the other peak. If you look way off there's the old water tower that sits below Stanley Peak (The peak is the highest point in the picture and the water tower is below it to the right):

We did some bouldering while on the second peak. Discovered that a 6' leash simply isn't long enough to climb boulders with:

Frankie did great, but I wasn't surprised. When she was a puppy I use to take her to work with me and she would follow me over all the pallets and stock.

That's all until next week. I really need to find a new harness as this one rubs weird and doesn't stay in place even when properly adjusted. I guess the search is on, so any links or ideas let me know.

I just saw this thread for the first time, so I "went on several hikes with you" both today! What wonderful country where you live!

Looks like you have 2 different harnesses? The first pictures show a black one, the last hike shows a red one. You don't like either one?

I like the two step harness from Pet Edge, that is what I bought for Sugar. Here is the link to their harnesses:

I bought the first kind on this long list. Sugar is a much different type of dog from Frankie, so what works for us may not work for you.
