Wild Cats and pooping?

We have a small garden area that Misha likes to play in. Problem is, the wild cats also like to use that as their litter box. Is there anything I can put in that area to discourage the cats to use it?

I realy dont think so.. If its an outside open public litter box then all the cats will want to use the area to leave & try to over power the other cats smell with theirs..

The only solution is a covered sandbox, if it's a sandy area she likes to play in. They makes turtle-shaped ones!

Cedar chips are supposed to be a good cat repellant. Look pretty in the garden too!

You don't want your child playing where a animal maybe even possiably used it as a litter box. Make Misha her own sand box and keep it covered when she isn't in it playing. You don't know WHAT disease wild animals may have and leave in there for her to catch. Isn't she at the age where she puts things in her mouth? You need to be careful.....

There is a new spray thing out in the shops that is supposed to scare away wild unwanted animals. I'll try and find the name of it next time in in the store.

I think i have heard that orange peels are supose to keep cats out of your garden....

Make a few phone calls. Both the garden centers and the pet stores sell something to keep cats out of an area. You spray it around the perimeter. Have to respray after each rain. Or do an internet search.

Or do what we do. Plant some catnip in your garden; but watch it because it spreads like weeds VERY fast.

The point is, cats do not like their bathroom near their kitchen. If they are eating in the garden area, they won't be using it as a bathroom.

We have a large garden area in our backyard. Vegetables and herbs in one area (22 y 46 feet) and another with flowers. We have catnip in both areas. It wasn't planned that way; but it spreads.

We often see neighboorhood cats wandering through, partaking of ths delightful treat. AND we see them mark their territory - about 8 to 10 feet AWAY from the garden! I never really thought about it until you made this thread. All I can come up with as to why the cats don't use our garden as their bathroom is that it is their kitchen.

Nearly every garage sale I have been to, has a green turtle sand box in it! And cheap. The Turtle would be my vote! It is covered and covered GOOD!
