    Golden Retriever ADVICE anyone?

    Hello ....

I am thinking about adopting / rescuing a male 7 or 8 year old Golden who has spent his life basically all alone. His "family" up and moved to Florida and left him with the son and his girlfriend to care for. They both work and go to school full time and have no time to spend with this poor boy. He spends his life in a small area at the back of the yard and only gets attention when the yard back there is mowed. It will be a big undertaking for us right now, as we have AnnaBelle who recently underwent surgery and is paralyzed from the waist down ... but I just would like to help this boy out. If nothing else, I would like to give him a temporary place to stay until I can find him a home that will be more nurturing!

Does anyone have any advice or pointers to give me on Golden Retrievers?

    Thanks,
    Kim

If he is a pure blood golden you could give him temporary care and call a rescue. A Golden Retriever Rescue is guarenteed no kill and will provide the necessary health care and find him a loving home he deserves. Just type it in on the net search and find the closest golden rescue to you. They have volunteers that will come get him. I know cause I volunteer for Tri State Collie Rescue.

    Kim, you should PM Logan.
She's an expert on Golden Retrievers and she works with Golden Retriever Rescues too.
She isn't too far from you so maybe she could help you or at least give you some good connections to GR Rescues in your area.
I think she said she was going to be away this weekend but maybe she will be able to give you an answer tomorrow.
    Good luck.
    RIP sweet Samantha

    Keegan's alllllll golden girl.
I was away for the weekend so that's why I'm answering just now.
Well, at 7-8 he should be way past the puppy stage and be a great companion. If he is cat safe I could forsee him staying with you! My vet told me that while goldens pretty much love everyone they usually hone in on one person and consider that person their person and are very bonded with them. That pretty much sums Keegan up. She loves people - she prefers people to dogs but take me away and she gets worried. At the dog park, if I go out of the fence she usually sits by the fence until I come back altho she is getting better. If I leave her at my parents house for even an afternoon when I come home its like I've been gone for a month -course I guess that's the way for most dogs.
I think it'd be great to add him to your home even if it is just temporary to get him out of the situation he is in. Goldens usually love kids too - Keegan loves my nephews I just have to keep an eye on her b/c they get rambunctious and with 2 bad hips she can't keep up even tho she thinks she can. Keegan loves "her" cats. She always whines when she sees other ones out in the yard - her and my younger cat are very bonded.
let us know what you decide!

Thank you for your info, Staci! I have always LOVED your Keegan! She's such a beauty and seems so sweet in all of her pictures! I'm going tomorrow to pick him up. It's only about a 45 minute drive for me, but I'm taking my large dog kennel, so we don't wreck on the way home!

The lady who is placing him, gave him a flea bath and nail trim today ... I thought that was a really nice thing for her to do. All he'll need is a vet check to be sure he is in good shape and doesn't have heartworms. I do hope he will be happy here ... heck, he ought to be thrilled to have some attention on a regular basis!!!

I do appreciate the ones who suggested the GR rescue groups. I have already scoped out a few online, just in case things aren't right for him with us.
